It's been a while since I last used eBay, just need a bit of help.

I live outside of the UK, but within the EU and have never had a problem receiving items from willing sellers before. However practically every item I see listed now says 'pick up only, seller will not post'

Is it worth contacting sellers directly, or are people just refusing to post overseas in general? Feeling very unloved on eBay right now Sad

Maybe to do with the new FVF (10%) that eBay now levy on the P&P charged.

I have only stipulated 'pick-up only' if the item was very big and therefore expensive to post. Same for things I have bid for, eg bookcases and tables. I haven't noticed small items being 'pick-up only'. what type of things have you been looking at ?
Did once have someone who after winning a very large picnic basket that I had made very clear was pick up only asked if I would arrange / pay for courier. Never heard from her again after I refused so re-listed and made more second time around !

I refuse to post overseas because there's no way of it being tracking through postal system, so I have no proof the item has been delivered or not.
I only do pick up only for very big items like furniture.

Thanks for the replies. I'm just browsing through clothing,no big bulky items. Postage would cost around £4.00. Not a great deal more than in the UK. Hmmm, ah well at least the Boden Shop is still shipping for £1.00!

£4, really?! But would that allow seller to claim compensation if you said it hadn't arrived & wanted a refund?

nickstmoritz · 23/01/2014 19:47

I do post overseas but if the item is over about £30 I charge £10.20 signed for which does mean ebay would charge me £1.02 for this which does put me off a bit. I quite often just risk normal airmail and tbh I haven't had much of a problem...touch wood. Since reading this forum I have updated my exluded countries though.

Well I contacted a few sellers who quoted between £10-15, all signed for. Fair enough, I don't mind paying that much if I'm getting a bargain.

The £4 delivery estimate is what roughly a few parcels cost when family sent presents over last week for ds2s birthday. Just plain old airmail with no tracking.

I suppose it's a mix of both eBay and Royal Mail putting their costs up.

I sell a lot of clothes on eBay and in the last year or so I have stopped posting to EU. I feel bad about it but I had too many problems with things "not arriving". If you get a proof of post it's still possible to get your money back but I got fed up with the whole back and forth waiting for it to arrive.

an ebay seller does need to send with online proof of delivery otherwise they lose all seller protection if the item goes missing. That is why the postage will be so high.
