Not kids clothes, cosmetics, books or DVDs! Never had to relist so much. Guess it's to be expected given we've all spent loads on Christmas.

I suppose it depends on what it is - I listed an expensive piece of camera equipment and it sold (BIN) within 15 minutes of listing. Ker-ching!

But then, the buyer must have been looking for that specific thing. I've done a bit of Christmas-money-spending on eBay, but all through specific searches.

It does depend what you are selling. January is generally perceived as a slow month but I am doing quite well so far. I have sold 16 books and a couple of other bits and bobs!

alltoomuchrightnow · 20/01/2014 01:42

it does depend,. if it's collectables, it never matters which month. I've weirdly had a lot of luck with re list clothes too.. that didnt sell at Christmas

I have come to the conclusion that if you wait until a free listing day and list for a reasonable starting price at a reasonable starting time then I don't think it matters too much when you list. You are not paying to list and you have done the hard work of writing the listing and doing the photos, so if it doesn't sell it takes seconds to re-list. If it doesn't sell after a couple of re-lists you can drop the price a bit.

I have come to realise that there is no point in trying to gain the maximum possible price for every item I list. I can't control what anyone else lists at the same time. I know I will win some and lose some. I aim to be happy with the average of my sales and not dwell on any one result.

As far as designer clothes go, I would probably list them individually to start with, unless you have a lot of the same size in the same make.

On the whole I would say list individually and offer to combine postage so someone can choose more than one and know P&P will be reasonable. I agree with purplefrog - re list things on free days & have a minimum sale price but make that the most reasonable you feel you would accept then fingers crossed for more. Listing for the seasons usually is best but tbh you never know with the weather all over the place it might not matter! January - some people might buy ahead for spring, others might need a coat.

I have just sold 4 clothing bundles on ebay (ended yesterday) all sold with plenty bids on them.

I always start my listings at 99p and have no reserves on anything regardless of the price. a £5 item or a £500. I have never been stung with any items I have sold.

oldbag Bundles sell a lot better than single items imo.

nickstmoritz · 20/01/2014 12:30

oldbag - you can make a listing, click save for later then on a free listing day put them on. The other way is to make the listing and schedule for a couple of weeks later then go back on a free listing day and change it to list immediately so you then don't pay the 6p scheduling fee. That way you are getting things ready & will best avoid listing fees. Good Luck!

PurpleFrog · 20/01/2014 12:35

nickmoritz has defined my "reasonable starting price" perfectly! I always combine postage and say so in my listing. Never start anything at 99p unless you are prepared to accept that.

At this time of year people could be buying summer clothes for a holiday abroad, and you may do well with little competition from others.

If you do sort into small bundles/outfits, also take photos of the clothes individually so you can list them as either. Make sure everything is ironed first.

send bundles of under 2kg collect + or MyHermes, just over £4 then plus proof of delivery. If collected cash only.
