Returning damaged goods.

I bought a picture that arrived damaged. I need to post it back to seller but they say they will not cover cost of return. They will only refund original purchase price. Is this right? Return cost will be £12 and that is pretty close to what I paid for it.

All advice gratefully received.

They are correct about usual Ebay procedure. They are not obliged to refund return postage, although it may screw them over if they don't.

If you paid near £12 and it cost them near £12 to send it to you I can see why they don't want to cover return cost. Is this a picture under glass in a frame?

No just a canvas but it is dented. Perhaps I will just keep it then.

Tell them that and send Pictures of damage and ask for a partial refund . I would argue that if the canvas was packaged correctly it shouldn't be damaged . I recently ordered some from tesco and they were perfect and packed very well.

open a case with ebay and write in the cost of return is too great - once escalated ebay may give you a refund without the need for a return.

Why so expensive to return, you tried MyHermes or Collet+ - a third of the price. £12 seems extortionate?

Yes that was a post office price. I will take a look at the Hermes website. Thanks everyone.
