Hi

I sold an item on 14th Dec, posted 17th Royal mail 2nd class. Not signed for/proof of postage.

Buyer has messaged me today to say they have not received the item. What do I do? I told her I'd chase it up but I don't know where to start, can I track it? How?

Any advice gratefully received!

eBay will make you refund the money.

If you didn't bother doing a tracked method of postage, then you cannot track it.

SandyDilbert · 24/12/2013 20:25

It has only been 5 working days, after 15 you can claim for the loss with royal mail, but you will need to refund the buyer with no proof of delivery and you can't track it either.

Was it worth much?

Refund the buyer now
After 15 working days, submit a claim to the PO for a lost parcel. You can get the form from a branch and probably also online. Parcels are covered up to £50 unless you have taken out extra services.

And this is why you must ALWAYS send tracked & signed for.

MyDogPoopsBaubles · 24/12/2013 20:32

I wouldn't refund yet - it's only been a week, and it went second class, in the run up to Christmas. Yes, you should have sent it tracked, but it's not really that late yet.

SandyDilbert · 24/12/2013 20:34

bit early to refund, and sadly standard post only covers items up to £20 now.

moobaloo · 25/12/2013 15:40

Thanks all. Will only be doing tracked from now on! Never had any problems before. Was only worth a fiver plus postage and I don't mind refunding but I'm annoyed on the buyers behalf as well as my own Hmm xx

If you have proof of posting then Claiming from Royal Mail is very straightforward, and few people will want to pay for a signed for service on relatively low value items.

I know it's a hassle but main thing now is to see if Buyer is willing to wait a few more business days due to time of year. If not, then quickly refund buyer, apologise to them, and go thru the steps to claim from Royal Mail (form for lost items is usually easy to find in main post offices).
