Filthy item bought from eBay

Hi, just after some advice please. DH bought an anorak type coat from eBay, when it arrived it has what look like oil marks all over it, which are not apparent on the photos, in fact the jacket looks bright red in photos , more like burgundy on arrival. No actual description of its state other than used and doesn't fit any more due to pregnancy. Do we have any recourse to get money back seeing as it's filthy? TIA

yes - open a not as described case then escalate in 8 days and you will be asked to return for a refund. You will need to pay for this, but seller may give it back if they are decent. Send tracked, so MyHermes or Collect + may be cheaper than royal mail. And you are entitled to all you paid including p&p of your original payment. If seller is not helpful you can of course leave a neg and low stars if you want them to count.

Thanks for the advice, Dh has messaged the seller who has asked him to return it and they'll refund costs.
Is it best to do this or open a not as described case?

makes no odds, but you need tracking info, so keep a note of that if you need it to prove the return. With the couriers I quoted you don't need to pay extra for the signature btw.

OhBuggerandArse · 17/12/2013 18:54

Don't bother with a not as described case - if they've offered a refund already that's all ebay will be interested in and you'll get no support whatsoever.

SandyDilbert · 17/12/2013 19:12

why didn't you get a refund ohBugger?

littlemefi · 17/12/2013 20:50

Am fuming! DH asked about seller paying for return postage and they said they don't accept returns, and he'd have to pay for postage to return jacket! If that's the case, is it now better to open a dispute?
The cheeky fecker also charged over £8 in postage when it only cost £3 to post, and has been really sarcastic saying that the dirt is "London grime" not oil, and posted a link showing how much the jacket cost brand new!

Think you will have to pay postage to return it.

SandyDilbert · 17/12/2013 20:54

they cannot refuse returns, saying no returns means diddly squat - get your case open now - and yes, you do have to pay to return it.

you will get all of that £8 back plus the item price - if under 2KG send it My Hermes for £4.20 .

and btw seller should send items out in clean, laundered condition. London grime is a joke. Neg feedback and 1 star for p&p and item condition I should think?

This thread title could have been much more interesting... I was hoping that you had found that your DH had bought something filthy on ebay and left himself logged in Wink

Tryharder · 17/12/2013 20:57

Will the jacket wash?

If you didn't pay that much for it and it washes up OK, I would probably keep it and leave appropriate feedback

littlemefi · 17/12/2013 21:10

It's on its 2nd wash as it is actually a nice jacket otherwise, but oil doesn't seem to be shifting

Don't tell seller you tried to wash it; you will be deemed to have accepted it in condition it arrived if you say that.

No way you could fold it up into a shoebox to send with Royal Mail signed for (£3.50)?

Who pays £8 for postage plus purchase price for an 2nd hand anorak, though...Confused

littlemefi · 17/12/2013 22:29

No, not going to tell seller it's been washed! And I agree re £8 postage! I think DH has learned a lesson. Think it will fold up small so will see what postage we can do.
Thanks all for advice.
