I won an auction for a book I want. I was the only bidder, and the start price was v. low, with free postage. The book is heavy-ish and would cost decent money to post- I wondered if this seller truly knew what they were doing, even though their f'back is higher in volume than mine.

After I won the auction, seller msg'd me with this:

I went to get the book to post to you today only to have my husband tell me he grabbed the bags by the door and took them to the local St Vincent's depot - one bag was not meant to be taken, your book was in there! I'm terribly sorry, I'll refund your money through PayPal now - hope no inconvenience caused

I replied with:

No worries, these things happen. Thanks for letting me know & refunding the payment quickly. All good :)

I reckon she just didn't want to let it go that cheap. Bit cheeky, but I didn't want to argue such a low amount. She refunded via Paypal, so no harm.

BUT ebay keep prompting me to leave feedback or if not, go to the Resolution Centre. The item still shows in my 'Purchase History' and I keep getting these prompts to 'resolve the problem'.

There was no 'cancellation request' on either side- we just msg'd each other and agreed to let it slide.

Any experts know how I can clear this from my history? Should the seller have issued a cancellation request, or something like that?

Ah, you can set Ebay communication options so that it doesn't send all sorts of nagging emails. Yes seller has lost fees by not sending cancellation request, but I don't think that would solve the nagging-emails problem.

(I have my comms options set to "almost nothing") and I never get nagging emails for anything except overdue payment (once this yr, honest).

Oops!

I would leave feedback if I were you - probably neutral rather than negative - simply stating the facts. That's what the feedback system is there for after all, and it will make it harder for her to pull the same trick again.

I'd leave positive feedback, she's communicated well with you and has lost out financially. Neutral feedback is kind of narky if she's tried her best.
