i try to sold genuine designer clothes, bags ebay stop me from selling in clothes, shoes accessoiries section, really upset about it, and this decision is forever, i receive email from ebay about one bag, they took it off my listing, i did not list it again, but after one week they just decide to send me an email stopping me from using this section, what they want me to sell then cars?
really not happy about that, and decide not to use ebay at all as they just want you to buy and give them money.

I'm not selling on Ebay this Christmas at all. I've been unwell and I just don't need the stress.

Friend's DD does quite well on Gumtree, cash on collection.

nickstmoritz · 27/11/2013 00:04

To be honest I still find it ok. I wish the fees were a bit less but I haven't had too much of a problem apart from the odd annoying thing here and there (fingers crossed).

hoobypickypicky · 27/11/2013 10:57

I find Etsy people much nicer to deal with. I have a small business and sell vintage Christmas decorations, bone china and soft furnishings on there.

The sales aren't so rapid but the prices are fixed so there are no nasty surprises, buying and selling is easy to do, the item remains available in your Etsy shop for a good period of time and the fees are far lower.

I still use Ebay for personal items but I wouldn't if I could find an alternative which reaches as many people.

hoobypickypicky · 27/11/2013 10:58

Oh no! Blush By "personal items" I mean my old table or a used microwave, not [ahem] personal personal items!

Hooby
Is Etsy only for true vintage or hand made items still? How much does it cost to have an Etsy shop please? Also is there a rule on vintage items being over a certain amount of years old? I have a feeling it's over 20 years, is that correct? Thanks. I am wondering if it is something I could try.

hoobypickypicky · 27/11/2013 11:19

Yes, Etsy is for vintage items of 20 years old or more, hand made items and supplies, which can be commercial (so you could sell wool, felt etc or a handmade by you woollen cardigan but not a commercial item made of wool or felt).

Fees are explained here: www.etsy.com/help/article/2144

nickstmoritz · 27/11/2013 12:14

Thanks for that.

Yes so sick of eBay. Extortionate fees and buyers who buy stuff for 99p then complain about it. I only did it to try and upcycle. I like the thought of others making use of my stuff and I always pack extras into the parcel. But I've had enough. The final straw for me was selling a mamas and papas travel system for £3.00 and the buyer still complained that it looked 'used'. And it was sold as used. Most buyers and sellers are great, but its difficult to do it with any conviction.

MollyBerry · 27/11/2013 16:21

Although hoobypickypicky it is the 'personal' items which go for the most!

Jbck · 27/11/2013 16:47

Hoobypickypicky, have PM'd you with an Etsy query. Hope you don't mind Smile

happywithit · 27/11/2013 20:25

i did email the complaining about ebay decision, all what they have to say, that they dont have to explain the reason, and they have a right to stop anyone from any section they want any time they want, thats there roles and policies.
really not fare Angry .

I gave up on ebay months ago I got sick of people scamming me! I wouldn't bother thrashing it out with ebay to be honest, all you get is computer generated replies. Gumtree and preloved are quite good

happywithit · 28/11/2013 17:53

i don't know preloved? can you sell clothes there? is it easy?

I've definitely stopped selling. And I certainly buy more from etsy than I do ebay. I lost it when I didn't leave feedback for a seller as I honestly had nothing nice to say and they harassed me for feedback culminating in 7 emails from them in one day calling me all manner of things. I left a neg and eBay removed it from their feedback and fobbed me off. I'd just come back from a family members death and funeral and being called all those names was not what I needed and then to have that harassment dismissed by eBay was my final straw. eBay have lost their way, it's used to be fun now I hate it!!!

higgle · 06/12/2013 06:33

I've just got £300 for some of my old clothes that were nice, I was just bored with them. I eBay twice a year with each seasonal wardrobe clear out, start everything at 99p and charge only postage paid. It works very well for me and I doubt any other site would get such good results.

msmiggins · 06/12/2013 06:48

I find ebay good. I have been selling there for years, new and used items, making £200 a month. I have rarely had any problems.

M1SSUNDERSTOOD · 06/12/2013 19:49

Amazon or cheap cycle are quite good alternatives. Former only if you don't sell books or DVDs (ie their market) and latter as long as you don't mind people coming to your house to collect.
