What feedback/stars shall I leave?

BeforeTheWorst · 24/11/2013 08:49

I bid on 3 things from the same seller a couple of weeks ago, saw them with moments to spare, so when I'd won them I messaged the seller to ask if they'd combine postage but said I understood if they said no as I should have asked before bidding but there wasn't time.

This was on a Saturday lunch time, I got no reply and by Tuesday I'd had an email from ebay asking me to lay for my purchases.

I paid via PayPal on the Tuesday and added a note saying sorry for the delay in paying, I was waiting for a reply to my combined postage question but I have paid anyway.

I received the three items 5 days later in a package together which cost £2.20 and the postage I paid was £10.50!

To be honest I am more annoyed that the seller ignored my email and want to mark them down in communication stars. Shall I mark them down on postage stars? I understand I knew the postage and should probably suck it up but £8 profit from postage is taking the p a bit. The seller should have sent my items in 3 different packages really shouldn't they?

The items were fine so I will leave positive feedback but wondered if I should leave low stars?

I am surprised you are leaving positive when they have overcharged over £8!. Have you asked them for a refund? I am afraid i would leave 3 negs 8 days apart so they count as 3 separate feedbacks, and 1 star for comms and p&p - they are just greedy.

thistlelicker · 24/11/2013 09:21

Can u open a dispute with eBay over postage fees? So they combined it at your request but they didn't notify you of the new price just charged the ill price!! Cheeky demons!!! Defo negative feedback for overpayment and lack of communication

SandyDilbert · 24/11/2013 09:36

you can't open a dispute to get your postage back.

BeforeTheWorst · 24/11/2013 09:37

I thought a negative would be harsh as the items were fine and I didn't ask them to combine postage before I bid. I know they don't have to do it but when the items came in one package I thought it was a bit cheeky!

I haven't contacted them, assumed they would ignore me again! I just want the feedback/stars to reflect that they are ignorant greedy buggers!!

Do stars mean anything? If I leave low stars three weeks apart will it affect their score?

I've been buying on ebay for years and this is the first time I've been really cheesed off! I've had a few things not up to scratch but when they cost a few quid I just write it off to experience but ignoring me and gaining a further £8 in postage has irked me!!

I'd be leaving a negative feedback for lack of communication. Fair enough you can't insist that postage is combined (although I can't see a good reason why a decent seller wouldn't combine if possible) but they should have at least replied.

It's possible if you contact them they might refund you the difference but I doubt it. Either way I would definitely be marking down their DSRs for communication and postage. Have you checked their current feedback and stars?

CloserLook · 24/11/2013 09:46

If the items are fine and you really don't want to leave a negative you could always leave a neutral (something like 'nice items but poor communiction' or 'lovely items but didn't respond to emails and high postage').

BeforeTheWorst · 24/11/2013 09:47

I just did that closerlook! They have 1 neutral for no communication and slow postage but 100% positive. I feel a bit harsh leaving negatives (wuss). It seems communication is not their strong point!

OP posts:
MirandaWest · 24/11/2013 09:47

They are meant to send in separate packages if they don't combine postage.

BeforeTheWorst · 24/11/2013 09:48

And they didn't even respond to the neutral feedback with an excuse!

OP posts:
CloserLook · 24/11/2013 09:53

I know what you mean. I hate to be the first person to damage the 100%! Up to a couple of months ago I would never have left a negative.

I'd probably go with the neutral then but mark down the stars. If you do remember that leaving no stars doesn't count, it's got to be a 1 (or whatever you feel is appropriate) to mark them down.

BeforeTheWorst · 24/11/2013 09:55

Thank u everyone, shall I leave them a week apart still?

OP posts:
SandyDilbert · 24/11/2013 11:33

yes, if you want them to count as separate negs, if you leave at same time they will only count as one.

BeforeTheWorst · 24/11/2013 12:53

Think I have decided to leave neutral feedback with 1 star for communication and postage. Shall I still leave these a week apart or does neutral not affect the overall rating? I can't leave negative when the items were fine.

I was going to leave it and not leave any feedback at all but I have to do something as its made me so mad!

OP posts:
SandyDilbert · 24/11/2013 12:55

yes - leave them 8 days apart to be sure. Why not leave negs? They ripped you off over £8 and ignored you and you think that only warrants a neutral?

BeforeTheWorst · 24/11/2013 13:16

Because I am a wuss Grin

If there had been a problem with the actual items I would feel better about it but 3 neutrals and 3 separate 1 star ratings for communication and postage will make me feel better!

Still nervous about doing it, I need to grow a pair!

OP posts:
SandyDilbert · 24/11/2013 13:26

why nervous? The whole point of feedback is to warn others - tbh I think a neutral is a cop out, plus it makes no difference to their percentage. Grow a pair and leave a neg, otherwise don't bother is my advice. honestly, they aren't going to come round your house and lamp you one, there really is no risk whatsoever.

Only1scoop · 24/11/2013 13:29

I'd ask for a refund for the inflated postage. Wait for reply. Then leave feedback,.

SandyDilbert · 24/11/2013 13:30

I mean it in the nicest possible way btw. Just leave the first neg, the seller may respond and give you back your money, then you can withdraw the neg and everyone is happy. You may leave a neut and the seller may reply and call you all the names under the sun, refuse to refund and be an utter twat - in which case you will wish you had left a neg instead.

BeforeTheWorst · 24/11/2013 13:46

I have sent them a message saying I expected three separate parcels as they ignored my request to combine postage. I said I would appreciate a refund of some of the £8 difference before I leave appropriate feedback.

I don't expect a reply TBH but I'll wait until tomorrow then leave a neg if no word from them. I feel better that I have asked for a resolution before leaving a neg.

Thanks.

Good. The ball is in their court now. They would be silly not to partial refund as they are aware you will leave neg. Good luck

LeoandBoosmum · 24/11/2013 13:53

Write to the seller and tell them you are giving them the chance to reimburse you some of the postage (pointing out that three full P&P charges is unreasonable when the seller dispatched in ONE package!) before you leave negative feedback...I'd add that you're giving them the opportunity to redress the balance and reimburse some of the P&P before awarding 3 negs (as you think it may be a genuine oversight!). You may discover their communication skills dramatically improve Wink
Just say if you don't hear back within a day or two you will go ahead and leave your negative feedback and award the absolute minimum stars for P&P and Communication. Do as one netter suggested and leave 8 days between each neg so they'll all count!!
I think some sellers purposely fail to communicate in order to be able to rip off buyers.
Don't feel at all bad about awarding neg feedback! I, as a buyer, appreciate it!! It gives us all a heads-up, and seriously, why should you pay £8 more than the package cost to send (even taking into account materials, petrol to PO etc!)... Don't feel bad about it if he or she gets arse-y and won't compromise...just neg them!

lljkk · 24/11/2013 13:54

ARKGHG, tried to post this 3x, third luck, maybe.

Would you have happily paid the same total value for all 3 items if the postage was so-called "free"? I think answer is yes, so leaving a neg is unfair; you still got a deal you are pleased about, really.

DSRs are different; 1 for comms moderately fair I reckon but postage is a bit fuzzier.

I would ask the seller one more time about a postage rebate; give them 24 hours to respond. 3 low ratings on any one DSR is enough to close most private* sellers down (lifetime ban from selling), so I would give them a last chance.

If seller charged OP £10.50 for postage then Ebay gobbled £1.05 of that. Royal Mail took £2.20, and paypal took 38p. So real cost to seller (which they can't get any refund for) was £3.63. A realistic rebate to ask for would therefore be £5-£6.50. If you ask for £8 refund on postage you probably wipe out all actual profit seller had on the items.

(*is it a private or business seller? Business sellers entitled to charge for their time to wrap & post by common agreement).

LeoandBoosmum · 24/11/2013 13:58

Oh, and what MirandaWest said: if the seller does not combine postage (even if you made no approach to this end before bidding!) they are meant to send out the the lots you win as separate packages!! This seller is pulling a fast one, quite frankly. How many people have they ripped off, who, like you, have dithered about feedback? Just NEG their greedy backside!

LeoandBoosmum · 24/11/2013 14:06

Totally disagree with lljkk! Are you an Ebay business seller, lljkk?

BeforeTheWorst · 24/11/2013 14:16

Just checked and they are not a business seller.

I don't want to close anyone down! Eek. I messaged to ask for a partial refund of postage costs, I don't expect to pay £2.20 for it so they could offer me a fiver back and I'd be happy! TBH it really annoyed me when they ignored me then just posted the item when I paid.

The items were £4, £5 and £6 so I would have been happy with £20 posted but I paid over £25 and it's not that I think that's too much, if they had sent me 3 parcels I'd be happy (and I did know the postage before I bid which is my own fault for not checking it out, not that I had much time).

Will see what they say!
