How to post a large clothing bundle?

I've sold my first clothing bundle of my little girls clothes - it sold within a few hours at my buy it now price which I'm now assuming was a bit low for it to have gone so quick!

Anyway there are 50 items within the bundle and I've realised that it's quite a lot of stuff to post and have probably undercharged for postage. I've charged £5.25 for 2nd class postage which doesn't seem like enough considering that it's all quite heavy together - about 2/3 of a bin bag full!

I've never posted so many things before - can anyone advise how is best to do it? Do I find a box and put it all in there, or wrap them in a few bags/bing bags in one go? Should have thought about this before I listed...

Any advice would be appreciated as so many other people sell bundles too so it can't just be me with this problem!

Thanks.

Collect plus. Don't even bother with royal mail - £5.25 will nowhere near cover it!

Find a box within the collect plus size guidelines and cram it all in, then check weight. :)

Agree you need a courier service. If using bin liner as packing material I'd use several layers. A box would be preferable.

How do I send something collect +? I've used the service before for returning goods online but not sure how I send something with them?

And should I check if the buyer is happy to receive it in that way as I didn't list any collect + details?

Try Interparcel too - they can work out quite cheap, and they collect from your house.

Collect plus - go to website, enter postcode you're sending to and follow the instructions. Can pay with PayPal too. I would let the buyer know, but collect plus is tracked and insured so actually better for them!

Ipostparcels are very cheap too, I always use them for bulky things.

Have a look at Parcel2go

They're very reasonable and convenient.

Thanks all for your quick replies - I'll investigate all of those options. Any idea how I can get it all weighed - do I just use my normal bathroom scales?

That's what I do!

bonzo77 · 24/11/2013 09:03

I have used myHermes. Weigh the packaged parcel on your bathroom scales then check the rates from the different companies. If you plan to do lots of ebaying, kitchen scales and a spring balance ( the hanging ones for suitcases) are both very handy and available on ebay

SandyDilbert · 24/11/2013 09:20

I second My Hermes, but I suspect it weighs more than 2kg - I think you will be out of pocket only charging that amount for p&p.

lljkk · 24/11/2013 14:03

You MUST ASK THE BUYER if they mind you using MyHermes or courier instead of Royal Mail. Most Buyers won't mind at all, but do ask because for some MyHermes depot will be far away & rather inconvenient if they aren't in when courier arrives. Also, Myhermes has a bad rep and some people avoid them out of principle/after bad experience. You don't want to get Neg feedback over savings of a few quid.

Collect+ & Myhermes websites are pretty easy to use. Drop off for MyHermes saves a few pennies, too.

I've emailed the buyer and she sent a nice note back saying that she didn't mind which way I sent it to keep costs down, phew!

I've found a box and weighed the clothes - they're around the 5kg mark (I used my luggage scales!) so may have to pay a bit more than I thought but not as bad as Royal Mail, think I can do it with collect + which is convenient for me for £8.50 at most or £6.20 if it's less than 5kg. I've got more than I thought for the items anyway so can afford to lose a few quid on postage.

Thanks for your help - I'm more clued up now on postage options!
