Collection only mistake.

Oh dear I have just won an item that is collection only and I can't collect it! I stupidly only read the 'free postage' on the listing and brought it. I have emailed the seller with an apology and to ask what he wants to do, add postage or refund. Do you think he will leave bad feedback?

He can't leave you bad feedback - it's one of the flaws of Ebay (although not in your case!)

lollilou · 23/11/2013 15:59

Oh thanks I have 100% feedback at the moment so phew. Can't believe I was so silly, got carried away. The item is something I collect and I got a bit excitedSmile

Can you get a courier service to collect for you?

SandyDilbert · 23/11/2013 17:12

ask the seller to send you a cancellation request which you must accept for them to get their fees back. Then they can relist or offer to an underbidder.

don't ask to arrange your own courier, that leaves the seller with no protection if things go wrong.

It's not a heavy or bulky item, small enough to post if a bit delicate (china). He has sent sent a message saying to cancel my bid Confused Can I do that as I have won the item? Not paid yet though and I would really like it.

Sorry xpost. Still I would like it, can I ask him to post?

You can't cancel if you have already won.
Apologise to seller, give him this link

resolutioncentre.ebay.co.uk

so he can send you a cancellation request and offer 2nd chance to someone else or relist (this is a free listing weekend). You promise to confirm cancellation right away so he can quickly relist etc.

If you were super nice you'd offer a few quid for the inconvenience.

would seller be in a position to file NPB against OP, anyone know?

lljkk · 23/11/2013 18:12

sorry, X post, you could ask nicely if he would consider posting and you will cover all costs, naturally, but he will probably say he doesn't dare since it's fragile (understandably).

SandyDilbert · 23/11/2013 18:35

yes he could file a non paying bidder against if he wanted to do so, then the op would just need to pay for the item to cancel that and he would still have fees to pay. Cancellation is easier, and nicer, all round. And quicker too.

It's a real pain isn't it, but I would just like to add that I recently sold some hornsea Heirloom pottery and stupidly sent it via my hermes. I packaged it as well as I could with loads of bubble wrap and newspaper etc. 9/10 arrived smashed to smithereens Sad I rang my hermes and was told 1 all packages go on a conveyer type belt so get bounced about, knocked off and 2, I can't claim the money back as I didn't read the small print that they will not courier any china/crockery etc. . I was left majorly out of pocket through stupidity and I wouldn't be surprised if the seller refuses to send it.

lollilou · 24/11/2013 08:47

Thanks for all your replies. The seller sent me a cancellation notice so it's all sorted. Note to self, read all the listing first!
