Bought a doll from ebay.com but 'she's had a haircut :-/

That's it really, bought an american girl doll for dd for Xmas. It arrived the other day but when I took the clothes off to check, realised her hair has been cut it in places along with the fringe.

Obviously emailed seller who has ignored me, so just opened a dispute via ebay.co.uk.

Recieved the message that I'm protected (& paid via PayPal) but just wondered if process is the same as over here ?

I don't want the doll with a cut 'do, but equally, if I have to send back to the US, will cost ££'s & how does customs work ? [nuisance]

Do you mean it had been cut by a proper AG hairdresser or a child? Did it not show its hairstyle in the photo?

willowisp · 22/11/2013 00:39

I mean its a black bob hair style which has been 'trimmed' in places & the result is uneven 'layers'. The fringe is no longer straight & naturally falls uneven, whilst in the photos, realise its been smoothed to look straight.

The dolls hair is also black & whilst there is a photo of the back of the doll, the hair is brushed forward - what that photo does show is the long strings are uncut.

The description is also 'mint'......which isn't a hair cut. Nor is it glitter on face nor nail varnish. There are no other faults.

I've now opened a dispute via ebay.

The seller is denying the hair has been cut (but not mentioning the glitter & nail polish) & is talking about her previous 100 % feedback.

She has now said she will refund if I return - the cost of this is $105 (plus she will likely to be liable to customs fees ?). So her suggestion is I pay $105 to get a refund on $150 (total refund $45). I have asked her to cover the costs & an waiting for a reply. There has been no option yet to escalate, do you know when this kicks in ?

it tells you in the dispute when you can escalate - it s 8 days isn't it?

If the seller refuses return p&p costs all you can ask for is a no fault refund from ebay - a seller would not give money back without the item being returned though.

Any previous feedback is irrelevant anyway.

$105 to post a doll?

Is it a life size one?

I am sure you can post a doll back to the US much cheaper than that. You might as well book a flight to the US and hand deliver it yourself for that price.

Is the $105 your price or is that what the seller told you?

SandyDilbert · 22/11/2013 15:40

that is a fair point - extortionate postage charges. I cannot imagine it would cost half of that to send it back with signature. Why so much - is that what the seller charged to send it out?

neddle · 22/11/2013 17:10

It cost be £17 to send a 1.2kg parcel to Russia this week with tracking, signature and extra compensation. USA wouldn't be too much extra.

willowisp · 22/11/2013 17:54

Well that's a relief to hear the postage might be significantly less. Could you tell me which service you used ?

I looked at parcel force. The doll weighs under 3lb & box size is 20 inches long. I couldn't find anything cheaper with insurance & tracking.

So if she doesn't respond, I need to wait 8 days before escalating ? I thought you could escalate straight away, but couldn't find this option to choose.

yes you have to wait to escalate, and if ebay tell you to send it back you have to do so immediately and give them the tracking info.

willowisp · 22/11/2013 17:56

Postage out to me was $37 + customs charge of £18

SandyDilbert · 22/11/2013 18:06

well if she has a custom charge to pay for receiving it then that is not your problem so don't worry about that.

willowisp · 22/11/2013 19:36

Ok, so looks like it might be around £32...which still means I am £50 out of pocket...:-/
