Thought I would share that I have had some good results from trying a home dry cleaning cloth that you put in your tumble drier. I wasn't too sure when I bought it but I have been pleased. Not sure if I can say the brand but I bought it in Wikinsons. If you have clothes that are not machine washable like a coat it is worth a try (obviously read the instructions carefully - I don't want to be responsible for any mishaps! but I have tried on a few items now and all have been fine). I am not going to try it on a beaded gown I have but it has worked on some skirts and a coat. Might help get things ready to sell and save a few £.

I have found that a quick spray of Febreeze and an hour on the line outside or ten mins in the tumble dryer on the cool setting works well.

Be very careful of sequins or beads as they tarnish so easily.

Yes that is why I would not use on a beaded garment. The home dry cleaning kit did a great job on a vintage tweed coat and properly cleaned it. It needed more than airing.

I did buy a lovely dress in a charity shop which was brand new but when I went to try it at home I realised it had a strong smell which I think is mothballs and I have washed it and aired it on the line for ages and can't get rid of the smell. Haven't tried the dry cleaning thing as I fear it might be a waste of money. Might just have to throw the dress away. Has anyone got any tips? Sorry not exactly ebay related although ebaying has made me an expert in spotting marks!

i find that alot of stuff that says dry clean or sponge clean only you can actually wash in the washing machine no problems

That's true. However I did manage to ruin a Burberry dress once by washing in the machine. The lining was hanging down and showing because the dress had wool in and had shrunk. Most silks wash well on delicates/cold wash and I washed a Dry Clean only Boden velvet coat which was absolutely fine.
