A few months ago I bought something off ebay, when it arrived it was much smaller than advertised.
I left them neutral feedback, in hindsight I probably should have contacted them but didn't feel it worth either our time.

I recieved a message from the seller saying
'Hello, we are trying to understand why you left us poor feedback without 1st contacting us with your problem. This item was not about size but location & quality. Our item description was NOT in any way deceiving but accurate. This specimen was from Veracruz in Mexico and it very rare. As most people know Veracruz speciments are this size.
Are ebays sales are for our charity. Apart from the ebay fees evey penny goes to our aid work. Your feedback has damaged our sales and thus our work. At least you could have contacted us first if you had a problem, thats just good manners. Your feedback is also defamatory and we may seek redress.
We have blocked you from our site'

To which I applied, how I'm sorry but I was busy and didn't really see a resolution as it was much smaller than advertised, and I just didn't want the hassle of going back and forward.I also said it wasnt defamatory.

I then got a message, they'd googled me, found out where I worked and said I couldn't possibly know about defamation as I'm an administrator at xxx company, listed my age etc. and also 'You will see in our description that we put the approximate size of the item so to say in effect that we are practicing deception can be construed as defaming us.
I did train in law, initially with the aim of attaining the Bar but later took a different career path. I am now a retired volunteer for the charity but a did my training at Christleton in Chester. I know full well the meaning of defamation.
Our photo is not misleading as you must know, it is accurate. ' I was very pissed off that they'd done this, but to be honest I was in a bad place with other things and I mistakenly thought it would be left at that. They also sent this to my personal account from their personal account.

MONTHS later I received an email to my personal account, not my email account, saying they'd been in touch with a solicitor. Saying that I'll be getting into trouble and that 'the wheels of justice move slowly, but will prevail'

Now is it just me or is this seller unhinged? I'm a bit scared for some reason despite me having no reason to be! Thing is they've sold loads, and have had negative feedback so it musn't only be me receiving threats!

Yes please message me their name. It is really weird.

nickstmoritz · 02/11/2013 11:17

agree with bsc contact the charity commission.

Also, if it helps, I went to the police because a man approached my 16 yo DD in a car to offer her a lift and I wasn't happy about it. They were extremely helpful and it doesn't have to be taken any further than a chat and advice, however it will then be on record that you have been feeling harassed by someone so if anything else were to happen you have an official record of how long it has been going on and what has happened so far.

Do let us know how you get on.

Strumpetron · 02/11/2013 11:41

Thankyou everyone! I'm currently in the middle of a case with the police (was assaulted and beat up quite badly in February) so I might ask my liaison officer what I can do. Less formal that way and I can get the advice.

Ill PM you when I'm on my MacBook, on phone at minute. Thanks again

it may also be worth changing your email address too - I did mine this year after being harassed. Such a relief to take a bit of control back too.

FamiliesShareGerms · 02/11/2013 12:24

How ridiculous, and how scary for you. Agree with all the advice about discussing with the police (sorry to hear about the assault, BTW, hope you are recovered). If they send you anything else, do not reply or engage, but keep it as evidence.

All this over a £3 crystal. Sheesh!

PatoBanton · 02/11/2013 12:54

Looks like you've had a comment removed by ebay - that'll be the breach of whatever thing that they sent you. Don't stress it.

Seller sounds completely off their trolley.

They have accused other buyers of having mental health problems, too - out of order.

I would take it with a pinch of salt. It is FAR too late to have the FB removed now, they are onto nothing.

Btw current listing gives detailed measurements - was this present when you purchased it before?

(btw I am presuming I am on the right page here, if I have the wrong people then sorry!)

PatoBanton · 02/11/2013 12:56

Oh and click on their nesg from past yr

they have threatened some other poor sod with court as well

NOT to be taken seriously. Bin the crystal, or give it to charity and ignore them.

Ebay is full of nutters.

Strumpetron · 02/11/2013 13:06

The measurements weren't on when I bought it, it was just a photo which was very deceiving, the crystal is literally the size of my fingernail ha

I think you're most definitely on the right page

Thanks everyone

On the other hand, had some fab sellers who really have gone the extra mile. It's swings and round abouts isn't it.

If they persist, go to the cab.

Wossname · 02/11/2013 13:20

Sounds like that ebay nutjob who took an mner to small claims court (and won due to incompetent judge) earlier this year? Really sorry but cant link as no clue what thread was called, but the guy harassed her for well over a year over a fiver. He was unhinged and I felt so sorry or the op.

Wossname · 02/11/2013 13:25

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/ebay/1661167-feedback-extortion

Oh, sorry, this one said he was a retired policeman, rather than trained in law. But similar level of harassment I would say.

lljkk · 02/11/2013 13:32

Thanks for the pm; thing is their replies are usually so aggressive, that kind of thing should put buyers off, you'd hope.

Strumpetron · 02/11/2013 13:51

Thanks everyone for your help. I'm going to ask if this thread can be deleted now if that's ok, I'm scared they'll find it and start the abuse again. God I sound like a right soft shite but it's really got to me

Thanks again for all your advice and support. I think I might treat meself to a nice crystal Grin any sellers? Wink

i was going to same the same as bdc, report to charity commission. First i would report to one of the trustees. if you go onto charity commission website and fill in name of charity then you can find all the details. If no joy with the trustees then report to charity commission.

Incidently is it a UK registered charity?
