refunds - does anyone knock off the 40p to relist an item?

Slightly petty I know but I have just refunded for return of an item that was new and had all the measurements on the listing but buyer said it didn't fit. All very well but it was listed as a BIN so cost 40p and now will cost me another 40p to list it again. I felt like knocking that 40p off the refund but didn't. Has anyone ever done that? I suppose the buyer might end up giving bad feedback so probably not worth it. Sorry, just needed to whinge!

no - because if they open a case eBay will refund them in full.

Have you sent a cancellation request giving the reason as a return ?
The buyer needs to accept the cancellation, but as they have been refunded there is no reason for them not to agree.
If they agree or don't respond then the case closes and you get your fees back.
In a situation like yours if a buyer rejected a cancellation then I'd appeal to Ebay and if you have messages that back up the buyer's return because it didn't fit and that youve refunded they'd probably agree to a fee refund.

Oh thanks, I didn't think about asking them to cancel. That's a good tip. I have already got the top back and refunded. It is just a bit irritating when all the detailed measurements are listed for it to be returned as too small. I will contact buyer & ask them to cancel for my fee refund. Cheers!
