sold a buggy for less than I was hoping for. Genuinely believed i'd listed all the faults and described the buggy accurately. However the buyer has contacted me to say they are disappointed with the buggy and that there are two additional faults I failed to mention. I'm not entirely sure I believe them about one of the faults as it was a tear which I am sure I would have noticed. Anyway I have apologized and offered a full refund for return of the buggy. They replied to say they do not want a full refund but a partial refund as they have already started stripping down the buggy to wash. I am not sure if they are trying it on and don't know how to reply. What would you do? Despite the extra faults they are claiming they still got it for a bargain if their intention to use it for themselves it is genuine as it's fully functional. I've noticed from their feedback that they do a lot of buying and selling of buggies and mark some of these as private sales Hmm

Personally I'd stick with a return for full refund.....I wouldn't mess around with partial refunds especially if you already feel they have had a bargain.....and if you feel from feedback they sell them on.....Good luck x

It sounds to me like they're pulling a fast one. I suggest you repeat that you'll accept a return and you'll refund in full once you've checked it over (and make sure you do too).

I can't see why the buyer stripping it down would prevent them from returning it. Tell them you don't mind that they've stripped it down ready for washing as you intend to wash it before you do anything else with it anyway. Wink

Did they collect in person or did you courier it?

If the latter they will probably ask you to pay for the cost of returning the item. It's in your interest here to remember that you're not obliged or expected by Ebay to pay for the cost of the buyer returning goods no matter why they're sending them back. I would offer if I was in the wrong but if I suspected that I was being conned there's no way I would make this entirely voluntary payment.

If they modify the item (like dismantling it to wash it) then they have effectively accepted it in the condition it is. It's one of the few times Ebay tends to side with a seller in a SNAD case. So you are on much stronger grounds than usual.

However, if they neg you or hit your *s then you have a long phone call to Dublin to may not get them removed anyway. Best to keep to Ebay only messaging & get them to explain what they are doing with the buggy now in the messages.

(or taking item for a repair, if the repair is done then buyer can't claim anything for anything)

Have you asked them for photos of the "extra" damage like the tear?

SandyDilbert · 16/10/2013 21:04

I agree - return in the condition in which it was sent and you will refund in full.

Thank you for all your replies. Very helpful. I was thinking of asking them to send photos of the two extra faults they claim the buggy has and will reply now and stick to my guns about accepting a full refund, adding the question of why they continued to strip the buggy down for washing after they noticed the extra faults!
