Is it worth relisting unsold items?

Where do you draw the line? No watchers? Very few views? My stuff is all 99p but only a fraction is selling. Should I keep going?

well if free listing then worth a few times maybe. But then I would prob start higher than 99p too - otherwise v little if no profit. Are listings ending in the evening?

somewherebecomingrain · 08/10/2013 14:25

Thanks lili. It's mainly clothes and most clothes sellers seem to start auction at 99p. Is it worth hiking that start price?

Hardly anything is selling which is a Shame. A few things go nuts.

Just wondering what other people's experience is - do some things never sell (eg 1977 jubilee commemorative coins seems you can't give them away on eBay) or are they just waiting for the right buyer (eg a boring mans T shirt that has had just 1 view... But it only takes 1 buyer!)

I rarely if ever list anything at 99p. As Lily says, it's not worth it if it goes for 99p. I do relist and some things have taken a few goes but have sold for what I wanted. I do sometimes drop the price when re listing if it is something I originally started on the high end of what I hope to get. I generally re list on a free listing day so there isn't anything to lose. Depends what you are selling but you could put things into bundles eg 2 or 3 childrens tops etc It makes P&P more cost effective for buyers of lowish value items.

Unless you are listing popular brands I wouldn't bother. The postage costs are now so punitive that people are put off. Even something really light now costs £2.60 or so to send so you're paying at the very least £3.60 for something that's a pig in a poke. Selling things in bundles is also not very cost effective as, again, the postage is so hefty that people won't bid more than a pittance.

For clothing I would only list the more costly brands in perfect condition or unusual/vintage. That said you can't always tell, some things do go quite high especially at the right time/season eg Primark xmas jumpers/onsies etc Always sell for the season/occasion - Halloween, xmas, holidays etc

I used to sell a lot of my kids Mini Boden but that doesn't fetch anything like it used to these days. I now give to friends or charity shop.

Small bundles eg a pair of T shirts would still cost the same P&P but buyer gets 2 items so is more cost effective. I did this with DS's lego/super hero type T shirts and they sold well.

End listings at popular browsing times/days. List similar items so buyers might check what else you have. Post abroad (with some limits on where to). Re list on free days. Give up when you are sick of the stuff hanging around! This is what I do :)

If similar items are selling & mine are comparably priced then eventually mine will sell, too.
Clothing tends not to every sell unless specialist item, popular brands or BNWT.
There are complicated things going on with visibility right now, too, OP may be hit by that.
I wouldn't pay any listing fees except for 30 day BINs. Might be worthwhile for some of OP's stuff, look for similar sales.

List to end on a sunday evening , things tend to sell well then.

nickstmoritz · 08/10/2013 16:23

Avoid finishing when popular tv is on. I am going to try ending a few bits on Tues as an experiment but will be avoiding finishing when Great British Bake Off is on (plus I want to watch it too!)

LilyBossom · 08/10/2013 16:30

I think Mon & Tues are much better times to end rather than a Sunday night tbh.

PoppyWearer · 08/10/2013 16:34

It's not worth it for 99p starts. You may end up paying extra postage and then it costs you money to sell them!

Can you make up a nice clothing bundle instead for £5 or £10?

PoppyWearer · 08/10/2013 16:35

"eBay for Dummies" advises ending auctions on Mondays, lunchtimes and evenings.

I try to do a mix of Sundays and Mondays. Still have a fair bit of success on Sundays.
