Aargh- I only post to UK but someone in Germany has won an item?

Hi,

I'm sure my preferences are supposed to block foreign bidders, and my listing states I only post to UK. I've just seen that an item I sold this evening was won by someone in Germany. They haven't paid yet and didn't contact me prior to the sale. What do I do?

It's only a £5 item and the postage to the UK only £1.10 for standard 2nd class. No way do I want the hassle and expense of sending recorded, then worrying if they want to return it.

I really don't see how they got through my filters :(

Any advice would be great please...

Don't worry about them wanting to post it. If they don't want it they can bear the cost of posting back

Weigh the wrapped item then check the cost of postage to Germany on The Royal Mail site, before sending the invoice.

I have posted all over the world, and can honestly say I have never had a problem, apart when I posted a cup and saucer to Japan and the massive earhquake happened!

Go on be brave give it a go, it won't be anywhere near as bad as you think.
Let us know how you go on please.

I have posted lots to Germany with no problems so you could send them an invoice with higher postage. P&P will depend on weight and size.

Wow thanks very much for quick replies. Press my I would have to send it recorded delivery though (I don't bother for low cost items in UK), isn't that extortionate for abroad? It's only a tiny item of kids' clothing.

I just wish they'd checked with me beforehand. I've sold about 60 items on ebay and just feel there's so many potential pitfalls

I've posted items all over Europe and never had any problems. I never get proof of delivery, but I get proof of postage for free, and if someone says it never got there, you can claim from the PO if you proof the cost of the transaction. They will insure up to a certain amount for free. The limit used to to be £42 but I heard it has increased recently. I've never had to claim though.

PS the cost to post a small item of clothing won't be that much more to Europe than it would be to UK. I usually ask for a £1 extra and that more than covers it.

FlamingGallah · 07/10/2013 22:41

Thanks everyone, it's going to cost £2 extra to send to Germany, the buyer is ok with that so I've invoiced her. No payment as yet...

Just to follow up... She did pay, I posted the parcel Royal Mail (not signed for as only cheap item), and it only took about 3 days to get there! Left me good feedback

So I survived Grin
