Seller wants to cancel...

I won bids on 2 items with the same seller a few weeks ago. I thought the seller wasn't following eBay rules at the time as within their listing had stated that if you collect your items they willingly reduce postage and packaging charges by £1 - bearing in mind their postage charges weren't cheap to begin with.

However I went ahead with my purchase as I needed items to be posted so that collection thing didn't affect me. Items arrived fine and I've left feedback.

Today the seller has messaged me to ask if they can cancel transaction. Saying that it won't affect me and that if I don't agree to cancelling it will go ahead within 5 days. Am I wrong in thinking the seller is trying to get their eBay charges refunded? I can't think of any other reason they would want to cancel transaction when there's no need to cancel. Am I better off just contacting eBay to discuss with them? I don't know if they will be bothered about this.

If you have the items then the transaction is finished. It sounds fishy and I would not be happy with it. I cannot think why they would need to cancel.

erm no - it is against the rules. Refuse it. They are trying to get their final value fees back fraudulently.

If you don't refuse it the cancellation will close automatically so you need to actually decline it to count.

Yes decline to cancel it. Then they don't get their fees back.

It's fee avoidance and you can report them for it.

Fwiw I asked a buyer to cancel once when she wanted to send a courier and was VERY VERY patronising. She was a tw*t about it and refused to. I lost my fees but at least she didn't get her chair. I put it on the bonfire. #catharsis

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to wait to receive the cancellation request and then will contact eBay as well as declining the cancellation.

Rooners - in that instance I can see why you wanted to cancel

Actually I don't think they can go through the cancellation process if you have already paid. I think ebay might block it. See what happens...if the seller gets funny then just tell them that if they want to cancel, they will have to pay your return shipping and refund your original payment.

I don't see how the seller can cancel if you have left feedback which presumably indicated that you had received the items and were happy with them.

LilyBossom · 03/10/2013 18:36

no they can still send a cancellation request if you have paid/left feedback. The item could feasibly break the following day and they may have refunded you and then want to cancel the transaction. Feedback doesn't indicate anything, it could even have been left mistakenly. You could leave fb saying item received then file a not received claim and you would win the claim. Same difference really.

cancel request can be issued without refund; obviously buyers are advised not to accept with no refund!

Even I think that's smarmy behaviour on seller's part. I don't know if I'd report 'em to Ebay HQ but certainly I would decline.
