Purchased from ebay but the item is not the right thing.

What do we do now?

Do we start an 'item not as described' dispute or speak to the retailer first?

What is the best way to return without incurring huge costs? It arrived in a large box so I imagine postage costs from the post office would be high?

It's large but not heavy any ideas please . tyia

Since you need to return it then you have to contact seller regardless, and they can probably best advise about best way to return.

Did seller make a mistake in what they sent you?

DrDance · 29/08/2013 20:05

not a mistake in what they sent but a mistake in the dimensions listed so it's quite a bit wider than expected and is not suitable.

It was my 19 year old who purchased it and paid £66 but he thinks it will cost about £30 to return it so is sort of having a strop and saying he might as well throw it in the bin as it will cost to much to return

Can I arrange an courier and how much roughly would that cost?

It's some giant 80 litre thing? How much does it weigh?
This is the way the Ebay game works:

You as buyer can return for almost any reason you like, Ebay Corp. will take your side, you send it back tracked delivery and seller not obliged to pay return postage cost although seller would be obliged to refund sale price+outgoing postage, & you can punish seller with bad feedback & DSRs (these could literally cause seller to lose ability to sell anything). So all the power is in your court.

So if seller truly gave wrong dimensions you may as well send back, to get at least a partial refund. Morally, if it was your son's fault for not understanding dimensions, he shouldn't expect a refund for postage costs, though.

My guess is that something like that could be sent for about £12, maybe £15 with insurance. Give us exact dimensions?
