I would love to sell a pair of shoes in great condition for £50.00. That is "buy now". But what about auction? How much should I start with to reach 50 in 10 days? Sorry but I am totally clueless about selling on ebay. Gumtree is so much easier.
Many thanks.

You can list them today for free and start the listing at £50. You can choose a 7 or 10 day listing. Usually if you start lower more people get interested in bidding but the risk is that you won't get £50.

See if anyone is selling similar shoes and what they go for to get a realistic idea. But if you want £50 then start them at that. Usually you would pay to list at that price so do it today which is a free listing day.

Thank you. I will do today. May I also ask how people will bid if I start with 50? Thanks again.

make sure you start the auction at 8.30pm ish tonight - no point it ending during the day. If you start at £50 the first buyer will need to bid that amount, or higher. £50 sounds a lot for a pair of used Next shoes tbh - I don't think you will reach that amount - how much were they new? Anything used you will be lucky to earn half what they cost, if that. Maybe you should look at completed items to get an idea what others sell for.

Are they next shoes I didn't see that in the posts? I

TBH I never pay more than about a fiver for 2nd hand shoes no matter the make or what fantastic condition they are in. They are still 2nd hand if they have been worn.

What make are they? Unless a very high end brand, with a fabulous resale value, then I can't see you making £50. It doesn't matter what you paid for them, its what a buyer wants to pay for 2nd hand shoes that sets the price.

If you want £50 then put them on a buy it now as £50. Personally reseverves and high starting bids put me off. There is no way of predicting how anyone will bid or what price something will go at, and for me, a starting bid of £50 would have me clicking away and on to the next thing.

You'll only get bidders if they're manolos, louboutins, or gina for that price!

Thanks Lilly. I bought the shoes for £80.00 on sale. They are not Next. I would rather keep them than sell for nothing. I have checked similar shoes. One pair had damaged heels yet managed to be sold for £12.00. I would not give 5 pence for them but some sellers seem to be lucky :)) Thanks again!

The shoes were worn on a few occasions only. They look like new. Do not fit me anymore. Feet became wider. I might leave just buy now as sure no-one is going to bid that high. Thank you again.

Thank you again. I start getting it but there is one more thing I need to ask. For example my starting price is £5.00. In a few days it is 25. What if I think it is too low? Will I have to agree to sell by this price or can I stop the listing or continue selling them?

If you auction your shoes then you need to honour the final bid whether it is £5 or any other amount. You can end an item early but I would not do that unless there was a problem with the item I hadn't known about before or something got broken. I don't think you should just end because you don't like the winning bid. Start them at a minimum price you would be happy with eg. £20. Remember your buyer has also got to pay postage which will probably be at least £6 for shoes in a box.

LilyBossom · 26/08/2013 18:40

So start them at a higher price - but you risk not selling them at all. But if you start them at £5 and only achieve £12 then you have to honour the sale.

Sconset · 26/08/2013 19:02

You should be aiming around 50% of price you paid for items that are completely immaculate, i.e. not worn. Around 30% for items that are in excellent used condition.

If you have unrealistic expectations, I am afraid you will be disappointed.

Buyers on ebay are unlikely to pay £50 for a pair of 'High street store' type shoes. High end shoes, yes.

When the auction ends, you have to sell at the price the highest bidder bid, those are the rules. Otherwise, if you want a set price, stick to 'Buy it now' or gumtree/facebook.

cherryblossoming · 26/08/2013 21:18

Thank you all. I have reduced the price and selling them "buy now". Who knows ... If not then the Gumtree. So many thanks again. You all have been very helpful.
