Reserve price?

I'm trying to list a high value item and have a minimum price in mind. I've looked on their help pages but the option for setting a reserve price isn't where it says it should be. I don't want to start bidding at a high price as that puts buyers off bidding.
What should I do?

Underneath where you enter the start price it will say No reserve price set for this item, and next to that the word Change in blue which you can click and add the reserve. You may find you get more bidders if you end the item in the evening.

or above it there is a Choose a format and Price header, and next to that you click and add/remove options. You may need to tick the box for reserve there.

It only gives Auction or Set Fixed Price as options. It's driving me loopy

Does it put them off bidding? Meh. I wouldn't start an auction below the true minimum I wanted to accept.

Is free listing this weekend - why not start it at your lowest price you will accept instead?

Mandy2003 · 26/08/2013 12:21

In the uk the minimum reserve is £50. That always seems a bit unfair because it would be great to start at 99p and know you'd get more than £1.04!

If you're not seeing the Reserve Price option, you may be using the quick sell form not the advanced sell?

Still free listing today BTW but if you haven't been selling long enough to have been rated as Standard or above then unfortunately its not available to you.

Yes a high starting price puts people off bidding. People go on ebay to get bargains, so they are more likely to take interest in the same item at a lower price. If I see something with a reserve on it then I don't bother bidding at all. If you want a minimum for something then put that as the starting bid - I can't bear the guessing and trying to bid on something that's got a reserve price!

It's the first thing I've sold and is a high value item. Oh I don't know what to do!

I would start selling some cheaper stuff first. A seller who has never sold before selling a high price item may put buyers off.

Plus you have just missed a free listing weekend when you could have started it at a higher price for free then not needed to set a reserve at all.

I sell high value stuff at buy it now or best offer.

I base my for sale price on the upper end of typical completed listings. I.e if it typically sells for £80 - £110 i'd set my price at maybe £98.
