What is the etiquette re. auction ending and being paid?

Sorry if there is an active thread on this existing. I'm a bit pushed for time to trawl through search at the moment.

I've been an Ebay user on and off for years, but have recently tackled my loft and am having the mother of all clear-outs and am on a selling frenzy. It's great! Grin However, in the past people have usually paid up almost immediately after auctions have ended, but I am getting quite a few late payers. How long should I A) leave it before reminding them their invoice is unpaid and B) opening a dispute?

I always pay within a couple of hours of winning something but that's usually only coz I bid on something I really, really want. I'm just surprised by how slack people are being.

Thanks!

I've always thought payment within 3 days of auction ending is acceptable unless the seller has put anything in the description about how quickly payment is required.

I send a invoice after 24 hours and open a case after 48.

Unless I hear from them in that time. It still gives them 6 days to pay in total before you close the case which is plenty long enough if they're going to pay.

@ChesterCake..."open a case after 48" its a bit quick..

Have you noticed if people are generally slower towards the end of the month? I wondered if it was to do with waiting for payday, as most payrolls work on last Fri of the month right? It is annoying because something are fairly pricey items and you wonder just how much benefit of the doubt to give people. I'm relaxed about the small items.

if you open a case after 48 hours they have a further 4 days to pay - no point waiting if they aren't going to pay

ChesterCake · 28/06/2013 22:25

That's how I feel fergoose, EBay wouldn't have just introduced the option to open a case after 48
Hours if it wasn't fair.

If a buyer is going to pay they dentally do so within 48 hours anyway, it's the non payers and time wasters that mess about.

Opening the case still gives them 4 days to pay, 6 days in total in more than enough to pay for an item,

Especially if you haven't had the decency to contact the seller and say 'I don't get paid until Friday I will make payment then' ect, if a buyer contacts me I will happily leave it longer. But I like to list all my items at the weekend and closing a non paying bidder after 6 days means I can re-list along with any other items.

I agree - mind you I opened a case other day, buyer did pay after few more days, then left a horrid neg saying I was impatient and desperate for money. Sadly, you just can't win sometimes.

Okay, so for example today I just messages someone who won an item 5 days ago (invoiced within 24 hrs) and still hasn't paid with a friendly message requesting parent. So if I don't hear back from them by the end of today would it be reasonable to open a case? It's for an item worth £100 so I think that's fair.

I would not leave 5 stars for a seller that opened case after just 48 hours without invoice or an email especially if they were business seller or sold regularly, generally I pay within 24 hours so I would be unlikely to leave it 48 hours but if my internet went down or something I would not be able to get in touch

I have ebay business if not automatically paid I send invoice after 2 days a reminder invoice saying I expect payment with a time and date like 6pm sunday then i would open case on monday
