On-selling items you've bought

Hello All.... I'm in Australia, but this is the best ebay-related forum I know of (I've learned A LOT reading through it!) so I hope you don't mind me asking this here.

I recently won an item for $AUD4 (about £2.40) incl post. It was a book in a series I collect- I rec'd it, read it & decided I didn't really want to keep it as part of my collection. I was the only bidder and it was very, very cheap- the postage alone was more than that- I kinda wondered if the seller knew what they were doing. The only have 17 feedback (then again I've only got 20).

Now, I've bought/sold books before on ebay in the series I collect (Sweet Valley High and Sweet Dreams, yes I know, a tad pathetic but I love them) but here I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong.

I've listed this book for sale with another 2 in the series as a bulk item for $AUD12 (about £7.20) incl post. It has 2 watchers and I'm wondering if the seller I got it from is one of them. They might be pissed off that they sold it so cheap and seething that I'm on-selling it.

Is it wrong (acc. to ebay or otherwise) to on-sell an item you've only just purchased? Given I'm selling it with 2 others I'm not making any huge profit from it. But do you think it's wrong/unacceptable?

Any thoughts appreciated... many thanks in advance Smile

It's yours, you can do what you want with it :)
Some people make a business out of buying from ebay and then selling at a profit - there's nothing wrong with it at all.

Agree with six. Absolutely fine.

The only issue would be if you were intentionally buying things to sell on for a profit, and in that case you would be a business with different sets of rules.

But if you only have 17 feedback at the moment its obvious you are a private seller.

Ahhh thank you. That's been my thinking too but it's nice to have it reiterated by other ebayers.

I feel sorry for people who sell at a loss. I've done it too- postage can really stuff you up if you're not on top of the current costs.

In interest of full disclosure- on ebay I'm a private seller (feedback of 20, woo hoo!) but I've previously run an online bookselling business via ABE and other bookselling sites. Ebay isn't the best spot for my stock, so I've only listed a few things (like Sweet Valley High lol) as a sideline hobby.

Am definitely not buying intentionally to on-sell... and my total ebay income is so low I can't imagine anyone would think I was.

Just a bit of paranoia on my part I guess! I don't like ripping people off, and this book is the 2nd I've won/bought where the seller has badly miscalculated the postage- so they've paid double their 'profit' in postage PLUS the ebay commission. It's not right, but not my fault I suppose.

Many thanks for your replies, I do appreciate it Smile

to me this is no different to me buying my 3 year old a nice party dress on ebay which she wears a couple of times then I sell it again, i did not buy to sell I bought for a party though I fully intended selling it on again after though if she had ripped it I would not have been able to, it is not the same as going to a shop and buying 20 dresses in the sale and then reselling them at a higher price

I agree there is no problem with selling stuff on I do it all the time often items I win don't fit or I just don't like them when they arrive. I usually just list them for what I paid for them and have had varied results. some have gone for same amount and others have sold for 3 times more.
