Suspicious of buyer claiming item did not arrive

The lady in question did buy-it-now on a Bugaboo accessory I was selling a few weeks ago. Around £20 IIRC.

She then took over a week to pay and sent me a garbled message in textspeak and calling me "hun" (yes I'm judging!) asking for more time to pay because she had bought too many things...

As soon as I received the payment through PayPal, I sent the item with a few others that I know have arrived safely.

I've now had a message from the buyer saying it hasn't arrived, over a week on. I need to dig through my receipts and see if I got proof of postage, although I have a horrible feeling that this was the one time I was in a hurry to get to school pick-up and didn't. Hmm

I've only ever had it before where I definitely had tracking info, and we were able to resolve it through Royal Mail. I can't help but think this buyer is trying out on, although I don't have a leg to stand on Hmm

I've sent her a genuine-sounding message of concern implying that I have proof of postage, but if I don't I'm bloody well going to have to refund her. Yes I know she could well be telling the truth.

No advice needed, I know I was daft not to get proof of postage (if that is the case), just really wanted to share and warn others, and also see if this type of thing is prevalent?

you need proof of delivery, proof of postage is only any use so you can claim for the lost item.

I would check with her sorting office yourself before refunding. Nothing ellse you can do sadly. And send everything with a signature in future.

Why on earth do Ebay sellers on here always think the worst of buyers? Sometimes items do go missing and not everyone is trying to scam you! Angry

Sorry just needed that rant as got a load of rather nasty abuse from a seller on Ebay when their item didn't arrive.

PoppyWearer · 16/03/2013 13:21

I'm a buyer too and had to claim through eBay for an unsent item (seller pretty much admitted it in writing, item hadn't been sent).

It's not just one-sided I know!

I only post things recorded del after selling on eBay, that way I know things have arrived and if not i can refund buyer and then claim my money back through Royal Mail.

fergoose · 16/03/2013 13:27

you can claim for the loss with a proof of postage.

Nobody has said this buyer is lying

Looster · 16/03/2013 15:58

I send anything recorded that I couldn't afford to refund - norm above £15 - worth it in this situation x

lljkk · 16/03/2013 17:55

I hate these situations, you just get a gut feeling not to trust them.
Sorry no consolation, although I find RM are brilliant about refunds.

I had exactly the same experience with someone who also called me 'Hun'. Grrrrrrr. It's probably the same person. Have you read through her feedback to see if this is a one off?

tazmo · 19/03/2013 21:17

Was it cherylcoleno.1 fan. If so, she did it to me too and called me 'Hun'. If so, report her as me and another bloke put follow up feedback to the effect!!!

I had this- I had proof of postage- and claimed through Royal Mail for the full cost of item plus postage- got the money from them in a few weeks and refunded all to buyer.

As a buyer, I returned an item to White Stuff by mail and it never arrived. I had to photocopy my proof of postage for them and send to WS, who refunded me for the item.

KEEP YOUR PROOF OF POSTAGE.
