Items arrived but not as described ...

Hi,

I bought some baby clothes off eBay that were described, as all in immaculate condition, and hardly worn. When they arrived, most look worn out and certainly don't look like they have hardly been worn. There is no way I am paying to post them back (postage would cost £10+). Would it be unreasonable for me to ask for a full refund (incl postage cost) and ask the seller to pay for postage if he or she wants them back?

Emailed seller but seller is not budging, insisting I pay the £12+ to return the item, and then he will refund the original amount back, and not the cost for me to post the item back. I'm planning on opening case. Am I likely to get anywhere? I did say to seller that I would keep them if he gave me a partial refund, but he is not willing to accept that.

Then open a case and report the item as not as described. eBay will probably have to refund you all the money and you won't have to send anything back.

I have been stung as a seller this way. Buyer reported item as not as described when it was in bloody mint condition and eBay believed them and took the money back from me. They do tend to find in favour of the buyer. Obviously I'm not saying you're trying it on, but eBay do support the buyer so hopefully it will go in your favour.

Yes - open a case, and where you tick the resolution you want, tick the box marked 'other' and write in next to it refund. This way ebay may refund without the need for a return. If you don't do this you will probably have to return tracked for a refund.

And then you can leave appropriate feedback and stars.

btw £12 to post? That is extortionate, with Collect Plus it may only cost £5

sarahtigh · 06/03/2013 14:41

you can easily send upto 2kg tracked for £5 anywhere , if they charged you £12 to post baby clothes you should be leaving low stars for that regardless

Thank you lovely folk for your advice support - I have opened a case, lets see what happens.

Aah got a message saying I have to try and resolve with buyer and can only escalate to customer service in 10 days time. Is that normal?

yes it is. Did you tick the box marked other?

ButteryJam · 06/03/2013 16:21

Fergoose, yes I did. Seller is saying he can pick it up from my place but I don't feel comfortable giving the address, given that he or she lives over 150 miles away. It just seems strange?? I also don't want to see seller face to face, it's just awkward!

eBay came back saying that as seller has offered refund, I should return items with my own money and will then get a refund back, but not for the cost of returning the items.

no he can't because you will have no online proof of return

wait 10 days and escalate it - ebay should refund you without the need for a return.

the seller already has your address anyway

ButteryJam · 06/03/2013 16:40

Thanks fergoose! There isn't actually an option of escalating it, or is there? The seller is still saying I should give him address to pick it up. This is way too stressful - I feel like closing my eBay account.

no - the option won't be there until the 10th day.

Tell the seller no - and then ignore.

Thanks fergoose! Will wait it out now. Thanks for all your help Smile
