NZ buyer, UK postage costs

Fairly new to all this so hope someone can help. I listed some shoes on eBay, for UK shipping only, listing a price for Uk postage. Got contacted by a bidder who asked if I was willing to post to New Zealand. I replied yes as long as she paid the extra postage at cost, and she agreed.

This bidder won the auction but I'm not sure how to bill her for the extra postage. Should I ask her to pay the bid price and send me the difference via bank transfer, or can I invoice her via PayPal? What's best?

She hasn't contacted me or paid anything by the way since the auction ended yesterday.

Next time someone asks me that question I'll say no! It's a lot of hassle for a couple of quid.

You can send her an amended Paypal invoice.

Invoice via Paypal.
Ideally package up and take to Post Office to enquire re cost, they will tell you how long delivery might take too (I imagine 3 weeks now).
Add on 10% to the postage price to cover packaging & Paypal fees.

Thanks that's really helpful.

Just go onto EBay page & send her an invoice with the extra postage added onto it.

Hi Sheila, have you sent an invoice yet? If not you can ammend the cost of postage before you send it.
If you have already sent it,ask her to use pay pal and just go in to " send money" enter your email address and the ammount and that's it.
ps you'll need to email her your email address

Many thanks for these helpful messages. Is it ok to insist on a signed for package, do you think?

yes of course it is.

sarahtigh · 10/12/2012 22:31

please remember you can not add paypal fees to your packing costs just packing costs

you can only charge the extra signed for actually costs which is £5.15

sarahtigh · 10/12/2012 22:34

what i meant was if package costs £9.40 to post and 60p packaging ( ie £10) if you send signed for it must then be £15,15 it is against the rules to add any extra fees to signed for/ insurance ( you can only charge exact cost of insurance to buyer)

Have you checked how much postage to NZ will be? It will be quite a lot more than a couple of quid ( unless you send via sea mail, which takes months)

lljkk · 11/12/2012 07:21

International Signed For Small packet to NZ would cost £18.53 (I assumed 751-999g package).

Recorded delivery in Uk for same thing would cost £4.25. And strictly speaking recorded wouldn't be necessary because it would be easy enough to claim off of RM without it.

To send it to NZ OP pays an extra 49p-52p in Paypal fees.

Up to OP if she thinks she should absorb that cost just because bidder is so far away.

Well, I took the wrapped package to the PO who weighed it and said it would cost £11.31 for surface mail signed for, so I have invoiced her for that amount plus £1 for packing. Plus the sale price itself, which was just over £2. That's what I meant by a lot of trouble for a couple of quid!
