Postage

I sell sporadically on ebay, and listed some clothes last week.
I see that Ebay now give limits for postage prices...fair enough.

2 of the items I sold were in the coats/jackets section, maximum postage £4.75.
One was a gilet, the other a cotton jacket...not big heavy wool coats.
When I went to post them, the cheapest price was £5.35.

Are Ebay out of touch here?

Did you sell and post them separately or as a 'bundle'?

Mrsrobertduvallsaysboo · 18/11/2012 12:47

They were sold seperately to two different buyers.

Use click and collect -a courier you drop of to and its only £4. I dont use the royal mail unless i have to do. This goes tracked too

Mrsrobertduvallsaysboo · 18/11/2012 12:56

But isn't that a faff waiting in for someone?

you don't wait in - you drop it off

Mrsrobertduvallsaysboo · 18/11/2012 13:03

you drop it off to a newsagent listed-its fab

What IS "click and collect"?

I agree waiting is a faff.

And that Ebay is out of touch. I want to send a 600g box set DVD and Ebay will only let me charge £1 or so in postage Hmm.

Oh and courier is a problem if you don't have a printer to print off the courier label (my printer is malfunctioning today(!!)).

Couriers:
CollectPlus: you can usually drop if off in your area. In a bag your coats (if under 2kg with packaging) could be sent for £3.99 with Collect+ (check the insurance amount on that, though).

Some couriers have own shop units where you can drop off for lower price, but none of them ever remotely near me.

instead of choosing flat rate domestic postage choose heavy bulky item, then specify courier charges in listing, you can buy basic scales upto weighing 5kg on ebay for a few pounds, by getting the postage right will save the cost within a few items

parcel post for upto 2kg is £5.30
under 1kg is £3.50 second class so if anything weigh more than 1kg collect+ drop at shop is cheapest

under 1kg royal mail cheaper than courier

lljkk · 19/11/2012 10:02

if anything weighs more than 1kg collect+ drop at shop is cheapest

Only if you can get it in the right packaging & dimensions are short enough, for Collect+ rules. And if the default Collect+ insurance is adequate, too. Oh, and if your travel costs to find a Collect+ shop are low enough (I realise that they usually are). I think we've discussed that before, though.

Still, thanks for the explanation. Ebay is a maze, sometimes!!

I think couriers really come into their own when you've got stuff that weighs 2+ kg.
