quick question from an ebay virgin

New to selling.
had an item listed for auction with a buy it now price. Someone made a (bloody ridiculously low) bid but not bothered as had a reserve. overnight, it appears to have sold on the buy it now price.
I thought though that once bidding had started people couldn't buy it now? Is that right?
Also, the 'buyer' (who hasn't paid) is in australia and my advert clearly states that postage is in GB only.

So, what happens now?

It's up to you. I don' t understand the BIN and auction running together, mine don't but If you only advertised to UK buyers then email your buyer, explain you are not willing to send and will be relisting. You can reclaim your eBay fees.

not sure really but if they are willing to pay all the postage costs why does it matter where its being sent too?

putting in a bid should cancel the buy it now though? What did it sell for, your buy it now price?

Yes, sold for BIN price but I thought once a bid had been made, which it had yesterday, then you couldn't do BIN and I thought ebay wouldn't allow it.
I'm sure I read somewhere that you couldn't do BIN once bidding had started and don't want to be in trouble (with original bidder if he/she complains) for selling at BIN once auction had started.

'Buyer' (who despite buying last night has not paid) has not made any offer to pay additional postage and it will be considerably more to post to Australia than it would have to post in UK.

but you had a reserve though?

Just open an unpaid case on day 4 and once that is closed relist - and block buyers from abroad too

Yes, I had a reserve and might open a case but what I'm asking, is can it be sold BIN if the bidding has started?

a bid won't wipe out the buy it now if you have a reserve, and that reserve has not been reached

ah, thanks for that. So it is ok to sell to the BIN person even though there was a bid (assuming he/she now pays and agrees the extra postage?)

the buy it now has won and ended the auction haven't they - so yes.

Fond out postage cost and add the extra to the invoice you send. I'm sure she'll be expecting to pay extra to oz. if not relist and apply for final value fee credit

all very confusing as just found a bit on ebay rules which clearly says BIN is no longer an option once a bid has been received! so presumably, that is only once bids received that exceed the reserve price?

bin is wiped out if a bid is placed, but if you have a reserve the buy it now will stay until the reserve has been met

The item sold at the bin price which is what you wanted isn't it?

fabulous, thats great, so hard to understand the rules on ebay, they really don't make it clear. On reading the section about BIN it said once a bid was placed you couldn't do BIN but didn't say that you still could if reserve not met.

So yet, got what I wanted but just have to sort postage as the amount I'd listed (and also put only posting in UK) is not nearly enough to cover postage to Australia!
