Sold a load of ds's clothes on EBay last week and stupidly sent them 2nd class instead oft usual recorded. No problems until two days ago a message from buyer to say they've not received item. Posted their parcel last Friday and got proof of postage and given that it was only 3 working days after posting I asked them to wait a bit longer given I'd sent it 2nd class.

Anyway to cut a long story short they've emailed today and said parcel still not received I want a refund. It's now been 5 working days since I posted and eBay have advised me that it would be premature to refund just yet and the buyer won't be allowed to open a case until next Wednesday.

I emailed buyer and said this and said could they kindly bear with me for a few more days and assuring that I would refund if it didn't turn up. I also asked them to check it wasn't lying at their local sorting office.

Buyer has totally ignored my messages and emailed me back to say that they were "out of pocket" and disappointed with my service and so would be filing a case with EBay and giving be negative feedback!!!

For fuck sake! It's like I'm banging my head against a brick wall!

I said that I was disappointed they were taking that view but I wasn't the post office and I hadn't said I wouldn't refund, I just wanted them to wait a few more days to see if it turned up.

Then got another message saying I was a scammer and they didn't believe I had posted it at all and spouting a load of other shit. They reckon I won't be able to get a negative feedback removed.

I've since sent them the proof of postage and said I'll telephone their local sorting office to see whether it's there. Told them not to contact me again to which I got a reply saying "oh don't worry I will be contacting you as you've got my money".

It's a £8 boy's secondhand top FFS!

I know I'll have to refund but fucking hell cute a bit of slack!

It's all stacked in the buyer's favour now.

Could bloody kick myself for not sending it recorded.

Well I would tell her that you have asked Royal Mail to investigate a theft and that you have specifically asked them to look at that postman's or postwoman's delivery round, and what happened at his/her address. And actually do it.

You have Proof of Posting, so you can. The Royal Mail are sick of ebaY scammers, too, casting aspertions.

See how she likes those apples.

Try not to worry about it now, you have the proof of postage so you can make a claim if necessary. If they open a case against you they won't get a refund any quicker than if they just been nice and waited patiently. Also don't worry about the feedback. You have a pretty high number of feedbacks and 1 neg won't make a difference (I'd still buy from you with 99.9% which is what you'll have).

I am happier today about ebay as recieved some really nice feedback on some items I sold. Was really nervous about selling again as last month a buyer waited 5 weeks before leaving feedback saying the items were more worn than she'd expected. I'd photoed the items close up and if she'd contacted me straight away saying she was disappointed I would have either given her a partial refund or a full refund, but I heard nothing so couldn't do anything. It mad me doubt whether I was describing things correctly. The people who left me feedback today have really boosted my confidence in my ebaying again.

Don't be put off by one loon.

Thanks all.

Tutu - that really annoys me when people don't contact you and give you negative. They don't give you the opportunity to put it right. There are a lot of numptys in this world, there really is. I just think it's good manners.

I won't be able to claim from Royal Mail because they write to the recipient and ask them to confirm within five days whether she has received the item or not. She isn't going to cooperate is she? If they don't hear from the then they close it and refuse to give you any compensation. It's all wrong, wrong wrong!

Linerunner, I don't think she will fall for that but i'm going to try and ring the depot near her today and see what they say.

I sent her a nice message to begin with apologising that she hadn't received it and saying it's just a thought but have you tried ringing your local delivery office to see if it's lying there waiting for you to collect.

She ignored that message. Now why would she do that? Any normal person would say thank you, i've checked and it isn't there or something along those lines.

I am getting myself wound up about it and I don't know why. I'm going to report her to Ebay for feedback extortion I think afterwards. Nothing to lose have I?

The best thing to hope for is that she leaves an insult in the feedback or something you can prove is wrong then eBay will remove it, otherwise just reply factually and politely.

I recently had one where they claimed they hadn't had it, it had been sent recorded and the message was a bit random on there. They opened a case and won! After a couple of months the item came back to me, they had refused it at the door Shock

I actually have absolutely no faith in humanity. I really don't. Some absolutely unreasonable arseholes in this world. Thanks for sharing your experiences though everyone, it does make me feel a little better knowing that I am not the only one that has dealt with a moron on Ebay.

I have reported her for feedback extortion. Thought i'd better before she actually leaves it. We can't let these buyers keep getting away with it.

I have no faith in ebaY classing it is as feedback extortion - I had a similar case and ebaY were useless. But I wish you all the best and please let us know if you get a result!

There are some absolutely vile nutters out there buying on ebay in order to get 'free stuff' or simply to be nasty to private sellers because they can. Fortunately most buyers are really nice and decent.

I look at the ebaY community boards sometimes to try to work out who the Grade A loons are, so I can block them. It gives me a small satisfaction on a wet weekend.

I'm even more convinced she's already got it now. She paid well over the odds for this jumper.

I've just spoken to a really nice lady at her local delivery office who said they hadn't been any problems with 2nd class post in that area and it was not in the depot awaiting her collection. She said that the address she gave me was notoriously "rough" (her words not mine) so she wasn't surprised it had gone "missing".

Bye defo report her to eBay, insist they investigate her, they won't tell you the out one will will check to see if she's been doing this a little too often.

Problem with all this is that when a parcel doesn't genuinely go missing which does indeed happen now and then, you are all but accused of theft by the irate seller.

I send anything over £10 recorded and do so at my own expense half the time. It's well worth it.

I have also been known to google the address of the buyer and make an assessment of the area although I am aware that that does make me a bad person Blush

Tryharder · 06/10/2012 11:10

Just to clarify, my own area isn't particularly wonderful so am not being a snob by the way!

I'm not accusing anyone of theft but I am indeed suspicious at her lack of cooperation in an attempt to resolve the matter. Any reasonable person would allow more than five working days to elapse before accusing the buyer of being a scammer and demanding a refund.

I have to say after my incident I also always do 2nd class signed for, it's not a lot extra and it's nice for both parties to have that tracking number.

I know their delivery office say there's not an issue with 2nd class at the minute but I'm still waiting for something that was posted on Monday, it might still turn up.

How is this for moronic ebayer behaviour.... I won a second hand toy described as being like new, when it arrived taped up in a carrier bag it was mouldy, rusty and covered in crusty old food (photo was bad quality), the figures had been gone over with nail varnish/paint to hide the chips in them.
I wasn't happy having paid near enough the price of a new one and asked for a partial refund or return. The seller ignored my emails (until I open a case and then they go batshit crazy at me) and ebay finds case in my favour. I courier the toy back (cheaper than RM) and seller emails to say thanks, the courier left it at her door with no signature so they are going to claim it was lost and get the value back! Shock

Report
fergoose · 06/10/2012 15:28

make sure you tell the courier the item was not lost and tell them the recipient wants to make a fraudulent claim for a lost item - you could helpfully enclose a copy of the sellers email for the courier.

Anyway, they didn't have a contract with the courier so won't be able to claim will they?

LineRunner · 06/10/2012 15:53

It's horrible, isn't?

I was packing an item the other day and noticed a defect. It was only cheap so I still sent it and told the buyer that I'd refund if they wanted and they could keep it anyway, as it was my mistake.
