Highest bidder is outside the Uk and I clearly stated in my listing that I don't post abroad. Can I refuse to sell to her?

That's it really! Bloody woman in Germany bid at the last minute, I clearly stated that I only post to the Uk, and changed my settings to not allow bids from areas I don't post to, so I don't even know how she managed it Hmm

Can I just message her and tell her that I'm not selling to her, or will I be breaking Ebay rules? Otherwise I'll just tell her that I'm not prepared to post without proof of delivery and it'll cost her more than the item she bought! Hopefully she won't want it then and I can just do a second chance offer. Grrr, just read the bloody listing!!

The exact same thing happened to me yesterday! I have just logged on to post a thread asking the same question and then I saw your thread. Someone from Germany has won an item I listed when I also state that I will only post in the UK and only offer postage to UK. To post to Germany will cost nearly double what I quoted... I had assumed that overseas bidders wouldn't be able to bid if I stated this. How can we stop this happening? I would make a loss on this item if I have to post to Germany...

does this help?

gemma4d · 17/09/2012 18:26

They might have addresses in England - have either actually given you a German address?

vodkaanddietirnbru · 17/09/2012 18:27

sorry link didnt work but this is what it says:

Here's some information that might help

If your listing ended with an overseas buyer, but you specified that you're not posting your item internationally, contact the buyer and explain that they didn't fulfill the terms of your listing. You have 2 options:

  1. Buyer pays the extra postage costs for their country.
Find out how much it will cost to post the item to the buyer and they pay you the additional cost.

  2. You both agree to cancel the transaction.
If you cancel the transaction, you can give the buyer a refund, cancel the transaction in our Resolution Centre, and request a final value fee credit.

To block international buyers from bidding on your items, click the links in these steps:

Select the regions or countries you don't post to.
In the Buyer Requirements page, select Block buyers whose primary delivery address is in a location I don't post to.
Also, be sure to clear the international postage check box when you create your listing.

To make other updates, go to Site Preferences in My eBay.

Yes gemma she has messaged to say she wants it to go to Germany and how much will it cost? Really bad ebay etiquette if nothing else!

That's helpful vodka, thanks, although I double checked all the options it gives to block foreign buyers so I really don't know ho she slipped through the net Hmm Think step 1 is the way forward, closely followed by step 2!

I've sent two items to Germany recently, despite only putting postage details for the UK.I ended up amending the postage before sending the invoice-I don't mind sending it as long as they don't expect cheap postage rates.

sarahtigh · 18/09/2012 22:36

she could in theory not accept cancellation then you can not raise a payment not received claim,

unless over 2kg just invoice correct postage for Germany and send and next time check you have bloacked bidders properly writing in description means nothing, you do not send for UK rates unless you inadvertently left same figures in international postage

if you do not send she could raise a non performing seller dispute

Germany has extremely reliable postal service

personally I can understand it is annoying but really if you wrap it well enough to send in uk its wrapped well enough to send to germany just weigh it invoice postage and send much the simplest

I send approx 25% of what I sell abroad and it causes no more problems than UK post, no more likely to go missing or break, I regualrly send porcelain from UK to australia with no problems

CasaBevron - AMAZING NAME. I loved Brookie...

Flojo1979 · 18/09/2012 22:41

I don't see what your problem is? U still go to the post office and send it, its no extra hassle. U just need to add as bit of extra postage on.

MrsZoidberg · 19/09/2012 10:31

How big is it? As well as the 2kg limit there is a size limit for Airmail. If you add the length, width and depth together, it musn't come to more than 90cm.

It sounds big until you actualy work it out - I was 1cm over on what looked a smallish package and the PO wouldn't accept it.
