Seller has refunded my paypal payment and asked me to pay by bank transfer...

And now its been refunded, how do I safely repay (I have told them I will ONLY go by Paypal) so that I still have buyer protection? Can she reverse the refund?

just to add - they are new and potentially really didnt understand the rules.

I know very little about Ebay but if this were me I would insist on paying via paypal or I would refuse to pay up.

The fact that they are new to ebay would also be a bell ringer for me.

Is it for a lot of money? Or an item that is likely to be dodgy?

Sorry- got caught up on phone.

They do have to offer it but want bank transfer as they are new and apparently PayPal hold their money.

It's a gift voucher at £72 (£100 voucher) so really do want it!

I can't pay directly through eBay now though.

Why would Paypal hold their money?

SpottyTeacakes · 13/09/2012 20:09

It does sound a bit Hmm but you should still be protected by eBay for the purchase. You could phone PayPal and see if it's try that they would hold their money? I wonder if they're going to try and get their fees back from eBay by saying they've refunded you..... I don't think I'd want to continue tbh assuming the listing didn't say that they didn't want PayPal? Confused

bluecarrot · 13/09/2012 20:12

Apparently PayPal will hold it cause they are new (I registered so many years ago I can't remember.)

They haven't replied to my last email though... Hmm. Think I'll call PayPal. Should still have buyer protection through them anyway.

Whoops, no its eBay that will hold their money...

I wouldn't pay any other way other than paypal (unless it was a collection only item and then I'd pay cash).

If you pay her directly, she can just not send you the voucher then you're £72 out of pocket. I wouldn't risk it personally!

fergoose · 13/09/2012 20:18

if you log onto paypal itself and find the original payment the sellers email address should be there. Copy that and then at the top of paypal hit the send money tab and pay again using the sellers email address

Gift vouchers aren't covered by paypal seller protection I think?

queenebay · 13/09/2012 20:21

Do not pay by transfer. They will have their money released as soon as you leave good feedback. Check card has correct money on it first!

ShirtRipper · 13/09/2012 20:28

Paypal do hold payments for new users.
This means that the money can take 21 days to become accessible, They say 21 days but for me it was longer, and My buyer left positive feedback immediately after receiving my item. If you search on the ebay forum about payment holding you will see for yourself.

twoGoldfingerstoGideon · 13/09/2012 20:30

I wouldn't touch a transaction like this with a bargepole, frankly.

bluecarrot · 13/09/2012 20:34

Thanks everyone - def no way I would pay without paypal. Ill check cover for gift vouchers. What a PITA!

Its a gift voucher?

Sounds seriously dodgy to me - run!

fergoose · 13/09/2012 21:02

as a buyer of a gift voucher you are safe with paypal.

bigpaws · 14/09/2012 04:57

Agree with queenebay. I am new to selling on eBay and PayPal hold my money for 21 days. However, once buyer leaves positive feedback my money is released.

Just check the gift card balance first!
