Postage query

I know this is footling really but I have just purchased a second hand toy, trying to save some money on Christmas presents this year, and the postage was quoted as £5.00 but actually worked out at £3.50. It was wrapped in bubble wrap and a plastic bag. That seems a big percentage to me. I don't know whether to just leave it and put low stars, or comment in feedback on that aspect and rate the other bits high or whether to contact the seller first. She'll just think I'm whinging won't she? Am I?

I'd put lower stars and leave it at that.

When selling you have to guess-timate the postage really if you're only selling the odd thing.

I'm sure it was unintentional.

I sent something on Monday which the buyer paid £4 postage and it cost me £7.16 plus wrap etc. I couldn't ask for them to pay extra really.

You could message and ask for the difference refunded if it really bothered you, but im sure it wouldn't have been done to make a profit

I would email first and ask for a partial refund - then decide what feedback and stars to leave depending on the response

I think £1.50 profit is too steep and it is fee avoidance and greed

I don't think it's that much extra, if you add in petrol and parking. I think it's quite reasonable tbh. I think it's hard to get the price right sometimes. I sent two tops the other day, looked the same size package etc, there was a £1 difference in cost as one package was 1cm smaller so was counted as a letter so cheaper than I quoted! I feel bad but I ve ended up under charging so often before

fergoose · 11/09/2012 22:02

but private sellers are not allowed to add extra to their P&P for petrol and parking

Thanks all. I decided to leave positive feedback, thanked her for the item but commented that "postage mark up was excessive", which I believe it is.

If I undercharge for postage, that's my mistake. Lesson learned.

If I inadvertently overcharge, I always refund. It's worth it because buyers appreciate the bonus and the honesty and reflect this in their feedback and in the key DSR star ratings.

you were right £1.50 mark up is way way too much for item in a bag 40p is more like it, I would have asked for partial refund, if I goot it 5 stars all round if not and everything else ok would be positive but with 1 star for postal charges and comment like yours item as described but postal charges excessive if seller was rude on request would get 1 star for communication too
