I'm new to selling on ebay, I've sold some childrens clothes but nothing else. I have a new, never used but without tags attached Juicy Couture handbag, any tips on how to get the best price, when to sell etc I was thinking of trying to tap into the Christmas buying as it would make a nice present.

Also I post the clothes using Royal Mail, is this best with the handbag, think it'll go for £20 - £30 but finding it hard to guage the price on ebay as nothing really matches it.

Thanks for your advice.

make sure you send it with a signature, recorded, special or courier. Recorded only covers up to £46.

Thanks fergoose.

Fergoose, I've looked at postage, it seems OTT, Royal mail is £9 / £10. Are couriers any cheaper and how reliable are they? Thanks

Ignore me, I got lbs and kg mixed up on my scales. Doh

Collect Plus is good value but takes 3 or 4 days in my experience.

Thanks, I find postage a bit tricky, I don't want to undercharge and lose out vs not wanting to overcharge rip a buyer off, put people off bidding and get a bad postage rating.

if it is under 2kg Collect Plus will be £3.99 in a jiffy bag

just definitely make sure its recorded delivery! I am sure a lot of branded items go "missing" and if you are selling near to xmas, you have more chance of the item getting lost !

For this particular item I would send special delivery.

People buying this type of item wouldn't be surprised at a higher postage rate.

I might absorb some of the postage cost myself if I thought a lower p&p would attract more bidders but I would always pay for special delivery of a high value item like this.

Thanks, haven't had any interest yet so this may be academic.

Oops - just realised you're expecting to get £20-30 for it. In which case, I'd put postage at RM 1st class for whatever its weight is then if it goes far higher then I'd pay the extra for special delivery.

I once listed a Radley bag. I thought I'd get about £30 for it because there were quite obvious signs of wear to it. It ended up selling for £80 Shock so I added the extra postage to send it special delivery. I'd already got far more than i expected so was perfectly happy to use some of the extra to be sure that I/it was covered.

What sort of size is it? If it is a big one, I might be interested for my daughter. She was eyeing some up as a potential new school bag! Have you listed it yet?

coolerking · 11/09/2012 17:06

I've listed it, its just a handbag size, not big enough for a school bag. Shame

I've just been reading the "fake muberry" bag AIBU and I'm sure the person who bought mine didn't by a fake but I'm going to check how to spot a fake Juicy bag and note down any security markings and include on the listing.
