Is this dodgy?

I won a beautiful changing bag, paid instantly and seller has refunded me requesting I send the money to a different paypal account.

I have said I'd rather pay to the account provided in the listing and she has now instigated a case to cancel the transaction. I really really want the bag, so will decline this request, how much hassle is it to change paypal accounts on eBay and register the correct account?

She says she cannot access the account I sent money to, yet she was able to refund straight away??

So is it dodgy or me being cynical!?

Is this a seller who has only recently started selling again? It may be the old Paypal account is her now-defunct partner's and she forgot to change the over the link to her new Paypal account? Or something like that. So IMO 50% maybe dodgy, 50% may be ok. I know this doesn't help Grin

lisaro · 19/08/2012 13:16

No, it doesn't sound dodgy, possibly the reason listed above.

wellwisher · 19/08/2012 13:18

Tell her to send the bag and you'll pay when you get it. Or pay half now, half on delivery?

Geordieminx · 19/08/2012 13:20

It's a right ball ache if you get married to change PayPal to new bank account/credit card. They need 100 forms of id, finger prints, and a letter from the prime minister verifying your bra size.

I sell occasional stuff but can't actually withdraw from my PayPal account so usually just use the funds to buy more random crap stuff. However if I wanted the actually cash I would have to use my mums account or similar

alemci · 19/08/2012 13:21

would she not accept a cheque instead. I know that is hassle too.

Babylon1 · 19/08/2012 13:23

Seller registered in 2012 and has a feedback score of 100% but only 19 ratings and only 2 as a seller.

If I send the money to the account she has asked me to, do I have any comeback if it doesn't arrive or is not as described?

My sister lost access permanently to her PayPal after marriage and surname change.:I think not dodgy

fergoose · 19/08/2012 13:26

Yes I think it is dodgy, all the seller needs to do is add the new email address to their paypal account then you can pay again - certainly don't pay via any other method than Paypal, and you need it to be via eBay too to ensure you get full buyer protection.

Babylon1 · 19/08/2012 13:26

She probably would accept a chq, but that leaves me with no comeback doesn't it. Buyer protection is thru paypal I thought?

The last msg I got was about how she is a single parent desperately saving to take her DCs on holiday and could I please just make the payment now.

I told her I had already paid and it was her choice to refund me. Surely she can sort the paypal issues easily?

OP posts:
fergoose · 19/08/2012 13:27

Yes she should sort it out properly - any other method you lose your protection - I would probably shop elsewhere. Why does she need to tell you her life history - isn't really relevant is it.

Babylon1 · 19/08/2012 13:28

Fergoose x post there, but that's what I thought. I'm certain I've got two or three emails attached to my paypal account, dating back to when i first registered an eBay account in 2000 Confused

Hmm And I really want that bag too Sad

Grin at Geordie! Agree though, I had to change my email address to my Paypal account once and they sent the Spanish Inquisition round to confirm I was who I said I was.

karinajack · 19/08/2012 13:34

Hi
Hope this helps. I use eBay quite often to buy things for ds and pay via PayPal I have no problem doing this as they have let me change my bank account number. However when I sell something I can accept the money into my PayPal account but they won't transfer it into my bank account as my name changed when I got married. It takes a while and a million forms of Id to change it and I really can't be bothered.
Maybe the seller needs the cash to go on holiday and so needs the funds to be into a PayPal account that is linked to her bank account??
I would presume you still have eBay buyer protection however you paid? Hope this is genuine for you though best of luck x

fergoose · 19/08/2012 13:37

I agree - buy elsewhere and tell the seller to cancel the transaction then she can relist it with the correct email address on the listing.

You can add a few email addresses to your Paypal account, 6 I think?, so the seller should get this sorted properly before listing again.

naturalbaby · 19/08/2012 13:41

I had to do this a while ago when I realised (too late) that the paypal address that was on the listing was my old one that I had closed. He had already paid into the old account, but because it was closed his money hadn't gone anywhere. I had a hell of a job persuading the buyer that I had made a genuine mistake and his money hadn't gone anywhere.

Geordieminx · 19/08/2012 15:29

It's not the email address changing bit that is the problem it's the bank account that "feeds" PayPal.

I could change everything to married name, email notifications etc apart from bank account..

fergoose · 19/08/2012 17:35

Could you not set up a whole new paypal account under the correct new name using a different email address? Then close the old Paypal account completely.
