It seems designed to make us all use recorded delivery to get tracking numbers (the other way to release the funds) - but in which case PayPal's partner ebay will suspend our accounts when we get a few low stars for 'excessive p&p' because we insist on sending recorded...

fergoose · 30/07/2012 19:44

trouble is, it is actually part of the paypal agreement to send everything with a signature, which is why without a signature a buyer will get their money back if you have no proof of delivery.

TequilaMockinBird · 30/07/2012 19:45

When did this start? They haven't done that to my eBay sales?

louiespence · 30/07/2012 19:51

I think I must have missed this one, they are not releasing funds until the buyer leaves feedback? About half of my buyers never leave feedback, that's ridiculous! When did they start doing this?I have about £130 built up in my Paypal account and now I'm worried that I won't be able to access it....

fergoose · 30/07/2012 19:55

they often do that with new sellers - hold money for 21 days, not that recent an introduction.

BlueMoon74 · 30/07/2012 20:01

I always send everything recorded - it's only a pound extra. I got stung two too many times by buyers claiming they hadn't received things!

Sellers beware though - I sold an item, collection only, last month. Buyer paid via paypal first (even though I'd asked for cash, but never mind). Anyways, I just received an email from paypal saying that they had closed a case in my favour! (A case I had no clue had been opened). Basically, the buyer had claimed that the goods had never arrived!!!!! I'm presuming that paypal/ebay checked our messages inbox, and saw that she had replied to a message confirming that she had collected the furniture and it was all in good order. Cheeky cow.

Anyways...from now on....if a collection buyer insists on paying via paypal, I'm going to insist on them signing for the goods on collection!!!

Didn't know anything about this feedback thing thou?! Lots of my buyers don't bother leaving feedback :S

TequilaMockinBird · 30/07/2012 20:09

Ah so it's only for new sellers then?

louiespence · 30/07/2012 20:10

Oh is it just for new sellers and only for 21 days then? Panic over Grin

Biggem · 30/07/2012 20:38

I've been selling for a while and I've still got funds locked after 21 days grrr!
As soon as I get feedback I get a notification saying checkout complete, it's so annoying.

Bluemoon you must never ever accept paypal for collection, if they do pay via paypal refund immediately and insist on cash always

sarahtigh · 30/07/2012 21:36

it is for new sellers until you reach a certain amount of feedback and average at least 4.6 on all DSR, also may last longer on tech and designer goods, you can request higher selling allowances and lifting of restrictions every 30 days however if they say no you have to wait another 30 days

the only problem with sending every item especially low value items recorded is that you may well end up with low DSR for P&P charges ( lower than 4.6 can be a problem)

personally I would not give you 5 stars if you sent 99p t-shirt recorded, becasue it in business terms means I am paying 20-25% extra for item for insurance that only benefits you and not me, on a higher value item say £30 it is only 2-3% so then fairly insignificant

Dh and I have sold well over 900 items we have refunded about 6 items for non delivery within UK and about 2 internationally, we send very little worth less than £40 signed for, cheaper postage means people bid more on your item so more money in your pocket for same total price insead of feeding post office coffers, even with refunds it is makes more business sense to send standard second class

MrsBranestawmingtovictory · 30/07/2012 21:42

Goodness me, yes. As a buyer, I really dislike recorded delivery as it means that if I am out the parcel gets taken away to the sorting office. I much prefer ordinary mail because the postman will either leave it with neighbours or hide it in the porch.

I am a seller too, and assume that my buyers think the same way.

LineRunnerSpartanNaked · 01/08/2012 14:42

Agree, MrsBrane. I can flat-pack a t-shirt to fit in an A4 envelope and through a letter box quite easily. Then sending it recorded to someone who may be at work, and who therefore can't sign for it, is likely to annoy them immensely.
