Buying a Sofa from a Bussiness seller and they asking for cash on delivery?

Hi

DP and I are considering buying a sofa (3 and 2 seater) from a business seller on Ebay.

Their preferred method of payment is cash on delivery.
They do apparently accept Paypal (which we would prefer to use).

It says in the listings that we need to unpack the sofa and check for damage before signing the delivery note as they will not accept returns for damaged sofas after the delivery note has been signed.

Has anyone bought something so big from Ebay and they have been fine? Also how would you pay?

I haven't bought anything as big, but DH has bought stuff that would be as expensive & I'd go for paypal all the way, as it least it gives you some back up if it goes wrong - I personally wouldn't pay cash on delivery for a Sofa, even if you do take time to thoroughly check it over, there could be something show up later & it would be more difficult to follow up after a cash transaction.

Also when signing for deliveries, that is th norm, but you can sign it as "unchecked due to time" - just write it next to your signature - we always do that as taking deliveries here can be difficult & block the road, so we genuinely don't always have time to do a thorough check

no courier will actually let you unpack goods until you have signed for them

you can only check outer packaging for damage or if you can hear it rattling!!

however if business use their own delivery team they will allow you to unpack and inspect

on a large item paypal fees are quite heavy so cash avoids the paypal fees, if a business you have contract with them so if something wrong the law stuiill apples whether paid with paypal or not, in an case paypal no use if it breaks in 3 monthsd though that would definiteyl be a reason for a refund/replacement with sale of goods act as a sofa should lasyt much longer

personally I do not think asking for cash is dodgy so long as proper receipt from company, in law that is adequate
