A lovely pair of brown leather boots, but one has obviously been left out in the sun and it a much lighter shade than the other.

There is no mention of this in the listing and it doesn't show on the photos the seller put up.

What do I do here? I want to return them (seller accepts returns) but I don't want to pay return postage seeing as they are not as described and I wouldn't have bought them had I known. Do I just send the seller an email saying this?

I would open up an item not as described case and explain that the boots are different colours.
You can request through the case communication that your return postage costs are covered along with your original payment being refunded.
Any good seller will pay return postage, but it is not enforceable by Ebay.

Thanks 80's Smile

I just tried to do that (I think Confused) and it has just taken me to a page to email the seller. I have never done this before so really don't know what to say. I don't want to piss them off and be an annoying buyer Grin

you should email the seller first before you open a case - give them opportunity to resolve before you take it further. A case is a black mark against their account, so they would be wise to resolve without the need for any intervention from eBay

When you return them Collect Plus may be the cheapest method - you will need a signature proving return before you can get your refund.

Ebay have always advised me that cases only count against sellers if they do not respond to them or resolve them as requested / instructed.
Providing the case is not escalated and is closed with mutual agreement then it doesn't create a black mark.
I have had a few buyers open cases and not one has ever registered on my dashboard. I was told by CS that this was because I'd always resolved them without the need for escalation or for Ebay to enforce a refund.

I would definately email the seller first.

I have had problems with sellers selling shoes though they always say they are listed as used etc

If they ignore your email then open a case.

also they should refund your retun postage because the item isnt as described.

I emailed them and she emailed straight back saying sorry she hadn't noticed they were different and to send them back but she won't refund return postage.

I am pretty pissed off. It is a very noticeable difference. One is light brown, the other is dark brown. How could she not have noticed before she sent the out?!

Email back and insist on postage costs being covered. Say that otherwise you will have to open a case against the seller. See what she says then.

I had this with a top that was sold as being one size but when it arrived the label stated clearly that it was a different size. I held out for postage costs as I don't see why the buyer should be out of pocket for the sellers mistake / sloppiness.

if you open a case with ebay and where you type in what you want, tick the box other then write next to it refund

then hopefully you will get a refund without the need for return

OP should get full refund and return postage but ebay can not make seller pay return postage

I would offer to send pictures and say you agree if the boots did not fit not refunding postage would be reasonable but two different colour boots are unwearable and it is a major fault that was not mentioned and you expect to get full refund and return postage. Ebay will find in your favour 99,9999% sure. you did right thing trying to get seller to resolve without case but seller needs to play ball

Soon according to ebay, you will have try and resolve with seller first, they will have eight days to respond before it can be escalated it will no longer be possible to open dispute without trying to settle things first, also time limit to open case is being reduced to 30 days

I agree in mis - described cases postage should be refunded and return postage given ( upto max of what it cost them to send to you ie if they sent collect plus for £4 you send back that way and get £4, but if you send back 1st class recorded at £6.55 you still only get £4)

however i don't think private sellers in particular should have to refund postage for items that don't fit as everyone knows that even if you are generally a 10 not every size 10 items fits properly
