I stupidly took the manufacturers size as gospel instead of measuring an item myself (yes I know, I'm a complete berk). When I measured it after wrapping, I am 5 bloody cm over the max size for RM Airmail.

I need to send it to Australia - it's quite light (less than 700g) but large i.e. l+w+h = 95cm.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this for under £12?

I sent a whole massive carseat to Australia for less that 100 pounds, so there might be hope! I used one of those parcel comparison websites where you put in all the info and they tell you the cheapest way. In my case it was FedEx as they did it on weight rather than volume. So I shoved a few teapots in there too...

Aaargh, cheapest I can get is £36.50 - The item plus the P&P they paid is only £26!

Savoy - Teapots? Thats a bit random Grin

People need teapots. Wink

You could try telling the buyer and then send it by sea. They might just have to accept it if it's something you can't get here. Like teapots.Grin

Can you split it into two parcels?

No, it's a knitting frame / bag. I do sell a lot of craft stuff to Australia. I can't believe I've been so dumb. I knew there were size limits, I just didn't check this one item - it doesn't look big as it folds flat but the two wooden edges are 45 & 40cm - doesn't leave much for the depth or any packaging.

As it was so close to the limit I just rang FiL who used to work in a Post Office - he said it would probably get past the PO counter staff but would probably be stopped at the sorting office and returned to me. I would rather fess up and apologise to my buyer now, than wait 5 weeks for RM to return it to me then have to apologise.

Looks like my perfect record is about to take a hit.

I've apologised and grovelled to the buyer, and offered to add a £10 free gift if they would like to choose another knitting bag!

Good idea.
