EBAY ADVICE, SOMEONE DOESN'T WANT TO PAY!!!

H everyone, ive been using ebay for years but more os a buyer than seller. ive just listed a new fendi handbag and it got 1 bid of £75. it clearly stated on the listing all the measurments of the handbag and lots of pics. the person who won it has sent me a message saying they have only just seen the measurments, its to small and they don't want it.
as a buyer i wouldn't dream of doing this to someone, i thought once you bid that was it, you had to pay.
i could really do with the money to be honest!
what would you do?
i have lots of good feedback and don't want to ruin it!
is it fair to make her pay?
thanks!!

you can't force her to pay, but open a non paying bidder case on day 4, close 4 days later, and only then should you relist or do a second chance offer

Buyer will then be unable to leave feedback for you. You can't leave a neg for them, but they will get a non payer strike.

You can open an unpaid item case if she doesn't pay, but all that will do is refund your fees and put a strike against her account.

The buyer cannot be forced to pay for the bag though, and even if they did and you sent it they could then open a case against you and you'd have to refund them upon return.

You can send a cancellation request which would give you your fees back and allow you to relist the item right away. By the sounds of it your buyer would agree to this.

You would be best to accept that your buyer made a mistake, cancel the sale and sell the bag again to someone who does want it.

I agree with 80sbabe.

In an ideal world I agree with 80sbabe too, but if the buyer does refuse to cancel the transaction you won't get your fvf back, so could be out of pocket. It all depends on whether you think your buyer is trustworthy enough to cancel the transaction - I have asked for cancellation before, they said they would but then refused it so I still ended up with the fees - so worth bearing in mind.

oh no, that's annoying. Ebay can be a pain at times.

80sbabe · 14/07/2012 21:06

fergoose is right - buyers can refuse a cancellation request and if they do the seller then has nowhere to go because they can't follow up with an unpaid item dispute.
My own experience has tended to be that if a buyer requests to cancel then they do follow through and agree to it - but this isn't always the case.

Yet again this is an area which shows Ebay hasn't thought things through properly. If there is evidence that a buyer isn't going to pay then there should be a simple and quicker route than an unpaid dispute to enable a seller to move on and resell.

thanks for your replies everyone, in the end i sent her cancellation and she agreed so its sorted.
just wondering, why would some one agree to a cancellation then refuse? is it just to be spiteful?
also could i ask another question whiles ive got all you ebay experts attention?
i have just sold an icandy pram for £650 and the person is picking it up and paying cash. is that the best way of dealing with the payment? is there any risk? ie. fake money.

I wouldn't accept cash, only through PayPal.

80sbabe · 15/07/2012 13:52

You should only accept cash for collection items, never Paypal.
A very well known scam is that buyers get home, open an item not received case and as the seller has no proof of delivery or tracking they lose the money and the item.
It happens time and time again.
You absolutely must insist on cash to protect yourself if an item is collection.

bellarose2011 · 15/07/2012 16:15

80s babe, thanks for that info. it never even occured to me that they could do that, as i said i havn't sold much.
theses people seem very nice and there from quite far away, the husband is picking it up whiles he is working away. so im guessing if they were scammers they wouldn't bother driving half way accross the country?? would they?!!
the other reassurance is that they have bought a lot of newborn baby stuff lately so are surely having a baby.
