Buyer saying she cannot complete transaction, how do I deal with it?

I am fairly new to selling on Ebay. I have sold some things which ended yesterday evening. I've now received a message from the winning bidder on of my items saying "Unfortunately I can't purchase this item. My daughter has used my account to bid on a few creams and has ended up winning all of them. I'm really sorry for inconveniencing you."
Their feedback is good so don't think it's untrue but I don't know what to reply or the best thing to do. Any advice please?
Thankyou

Did you get any other bids? If so you can offer the next highest bidder te item for whatever their bid was.

The problem is that she can leave you negative feedback but you can't.

You also have the option of asking eBay to open a case against her for non payment though it depends on your settings as to how quickly you can do this. (mine open automatically after 3 days)

As a goodwill gesture you could reply with, ok thanks no worries and relist the item however you will incur more fees doing this. She has entered into a contract with you so the obligation is on her to pay regardless of the situation leading to the purchase.

Hope this helps Smile

either open a non paying bidder case on day 4 or ask them to cancel the transaction - if they refuse the latter you won't get your fees back. I would open a non paying bidder case on day 4, once closed 4 days later you can then relist or do a second chance offer.

I would do the same as fergoose suggests.
To protect yourself and make sure you get your fees back you should open a non-paying bidder case and let it take it's course. You will still be able to do a second chance offer or to re-list once it is complete.

The buyer is in breach here because the rules are simple, if you bid and win then you pay. It's not your issue that they also won other items the same and they should have known this.
I get tired of hearing all the excuses about other people / cats/ dogs/ children/ hamsters/ goldfish etc... bidding and winning multiple items. You should only bid on what you can afford to pay for and that is that.
Ebay put this case system into place and made it a much shorter process to assist sellers in such situations and really it should be used.

If by any chance they do decide to pay then make sure you send the item recorded delivery and get a signature, you don't want to risk them pinging back an item not received case at you.

Oh and non-paying bidders can't leave feedback so don't worry about that.

I would be tempted to say that you will cancel the transaction if she will pay the relisting fee so that you will not be out of pocket for her failing to complete the transaction. I had a buyer cancel on me and she offered to pay the relisting which I took up - why should we be out of pocket because people don't keep their accounts secure!!

raspberryroop · 13/07/2012 07:27

Go via cancel transaction - you will get your fees back no need for her to pay anything and she cannot then leave feedback

SoupDragon · 13/07/2012 07:35

I would just do the "mutually agree to cancel transaction" thing.

fergoose · 13/07/2012 09:43

but if the buyer wants to be awkward they just refuse the cancel transaction, you don't get your final fees back and they can still leave feedback. You are relying on them being decent, and they haven't been so far have they?
