I am a bit sick of buying clothes from ebay listed as 'used but in excellent condition' and for them to arrive with obvious wash wear, looking a bit tired.

How do you define 'excellent'>

I would expect them to look new.

Worn but no bobbles or wash wear, fading, snags, pulls, rips, holes, mends, stains, missing parts, strained stitching, or customisations.

And clean!

I would presume just about new looking - I agree with you when people say excellent condition and a dishcloth arrives. Make sure you tell your sellers if you are unhappy - many will wish to resolve.

I have this problem with secondhand books! Something described as 'as new' shouldn't have 'To Addie on your 6th Birthday xxx' written inside in biro! (My latest Grrrrr!)

HecateHarshPants · 07/07/2012 18:43

I would expect them to look like they'd never been touched. Grin

Should look like they haven't bee worn.

for clothes excellent means as new but worn/ tried on no stains pulled threads etc

basically new but without tags or packaging or box

for books there is a guideline a brand new book with gift inscription would be "very good " not as new

I would only use excellent if I thought it was unused but could not be absolutely sure

If I am selling on a mistake purchase that has never been worn but has been tried on I describe it as excellent. If I have worn and washed it and it is looking good I say "good used condition" If it is not as good as this I tend to send it to the charity shop as I live in fear of disapointing a purchaser.

Excellent condition for me means looking as good new, no fading, rips, wear etc.

For anything with wash wear I describe it as good condition, mention fading if in one spot and includes close ups where appropriate. I usually say something like good condition, some fading but still lots of playing left in them. No rips or stains.

I'm really careful about how I describe things and prefer to "under" describe. Anything I'm not sure about I don't sell on ebay but use NCT nearly new sales as people can view them before they buy.

I did purchase some childrens jeans desribed as excellent, they were worn at the knees and the bottom of the jeans were fraying. I contacted seller and she was really nice and just refunded the price and postage. In that instance I left positive feedback but if she hadn't been reasonable I would have left negative feedback.

Like new. You'd have to have the new item to hand to compare to find where the wear & tear & fading were (if any).
