Just had an 'item not as described' email

I sold a chicco nightlight with instructions for 99p.

Looks brand new, been on ds2 cot since purchase.

Buyer says its been glued and circuit board is oxidised?

I have emailed back saying if she returns the item i will refund the 99p, but the return cost will be £4.
Should i just refund to save me getting bad feedback?

no because you could refund without a return and then still get a neg

tell them to return it in the condition in which it was sent, and once you have checked your security marks you will refund in full - you will need to refund all their payment not just the 99p, and if it is faulty I think you should give them the return postage costs too

But they could be trying to return their own faulty item and keep your nice new item - so mention security marks and this may stop them trying this.

KenNEddieKennedy · 18/06/2012 20:14

For 99p why would anyone go to the bother?

Just play it by the book as fergoose says, tell them to send it back, it's no biggie & you'll refund.

mosschops30 · 18/06/2012 20:20

Oops i have said i will refund now.
What a pain in the arse!

OP posts:
fergoose · 18/06/2012 21:17

just make sure you get it back first before you refund is my advice

mosschops30 · 19/06/2012 18:17

Very odd that buyer has had item for 11 days and then as soon as i left positive feedback they contacted me Hmm

today they sent me pictures of the supposed circuit board and stating it has been wet! They demand a full refund.

So i have done what you say, asked them to return, so i can check security marks and then when im happy its my item i will give full refund.
Stupid really as they will have to pay for recorded return delivery, so all they get is the 99p.

What a faff!

I had a similar email from an item they'd had for a month.

Gave a very polite reply (thanks to husband being there telling me to be succinct, polite and professional) and lo and behold they have not yet bothered to send item back. So I am not refunding yet!

mosschops30 · 19/06/2012 19:40

She has just posted this

Do you mean its not your item or...? The toy is now to me in Bulgaria and it cost about gbp12 to return it to you. ?herefore we tried to fix it. Its not possible, because the circuit board is oxidized.
Sorry, but I`m gonna to leave you negative feedback and open a case in resolution center.

I sent it to an address in the UK so has obviously been sent on.

Anyone know what happens now?

Acepuppets · 19/06/2012 19:44

They seem to know a lot about circuit boards. I am sorry that this has happened. I have no advice but hate unfairness.

MNP · 19/06/2012 19:48

They sound like they are playing it up, let them open a resolution, it is all you can do. As for returning costs, that is up to them but they could have bought a new one at this rate so they are being daft.

Keep all the emails (sure I don't have to mention that) and follow the procedures should they proceed.

knitknack · 19/06/2012 19:51

Even if eBay found in their a our they'd only get back what they paid you, no more.

knitknack · 19/06/2012 19:52

Favour

Stupid phone!

mosschops30 · 19/06/2012 20:18

Thanks everyone.

Im really upset about it. I would never send anyone faulty goods, particularly ones for children!
I have 100% feedback and disappointed that this will now be negative.
I dont know what else they want me to do, i offered an item refund, now they want a full refund but dont want to send item back because it will cost them too much.

OP posts:
40notTrendy · 19/06/2012 20:23

Stick to what you've said. It's perfectly normal to ask for item to be returned. It may not go in your favour in the end but keep your communication emotion free and to the facts. Have you checked the buyer's feedback?

noseynoonoo · 19/06/2012 20:29

Oh yes, check the feedback. I had someone complain that a skirt had gravy stains on it which clearly it didn't. I then checked their feedback and they had left about 12 negatives in their previous 20 transactions.

mosschops30 · 19/06/2012 20:32

Funnily enough, you cant view their feedback, theyve kept it private!

OP posts:
OhNoMyFanjo · 19/06/2012 20:34

Well let them open a case, they are unable to return it in the condition they received it as they have tried to repair it, therefore they will not find against you. They can however leave neg feedback still.

sleepybump · 19/06/2012 20:45

Sounds like they may leave neg feedback whatever you do, but you get to comment on this so dont worry too much. Do as others have said, if they open a case with ebay just make sure you explain it was sent to a uk address in perfect working order. If there was water damage it may be from whoever passed it on, or it could all be lies to get their money back (saying bulgaria to make you feel you should just refund item+postage). Youve offered to refund item if it is returned so can be checked, this is perfectly fine and correct. If they play ball and return it and you're happy its yours and ypu want to refind postage (which you dont have to or ebays dispute settling would include adding this when it doesnt) you prob need only refund initial postage a) because distance selling regs imply this (only refund initial or return postage not both) and b) because you did not intend to do business abroad, that part was their. choice. If they go through ebay they obly get theor 99p

sleepybump · 19/06/2012 20:48

Re private feedback... Can you look at the items/find the sellers page and look for them on that date? I bet ebay would be able to see theirvpattern of neg feedback if this is something they always do...

thisisyesterday · 19/06/2012 20:50

if they open a case ebay will tell them to return it to you for a refund.

you can also refuse this (i think) if they have tried to fix it, as it is now not in the condition you sold it in. you can also point out that they are not the people who bought it as you sent it to a UK address.

I would contact ebay though and just ask their opinion on what will happen

fergoose · 19/06/2012 20:56

if they have tried to repair it then they should not be able to return it for a refund as trying to repair themselves means they have accepted the item

but if they open a case eBay would tell them to return it via trackable means

and as for feedback, just leave calm response. I offered refund in full upon return. Item was sent out in as new condition

Or something like that

Don't get upset - it is only a red dot on a website - not worth being worried about it.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 19/06/2012 21:01

Sounds like a cheap attempt at a con to me. Why the hell would anyone just take their word for it and refund x-amount of postage to a foreign country? There are a lot of scams on eBay. Bloody time wasters.

LineRunner · 28/06/2012 14:23

It does sound like a scam - almost like blackmail, really. Bloody hell.

LineRunner · 28/06/2012 14:24

So what happened in the end?

savoycabbage · 28/06/2012 14:28

I wasn't happy when I got my first negative feedback but I refused to be conned or pushed around. You get to respond and mine got back up to 100 after a while.
