Thinking about leaving negative feedback.

This seller has really annoyed me and I am contemplating leaving a negative but I just thought I would sound out you guys to see if IABU or not.

DD tells me 8 days before that she needs something specific for a show the following weekend. I look on ebay and find exactly the thing ending at 9.30 am on the monday morning. The pictures are a bit ropey so i contact the seller to see if there is elastic at the hem as the photo didn't show it. She replies yes and i reply 'great just what i need for the show which is next saturday (following the end of auction) if i were to win the auction please could she post asap.'

So, i win the item, paid a good price as I couldn't face having to trug into town to look for theses things. and paid by PP a minute after the auction end.

Nothing then for a few days.

Thursday morning thing has still not turned up. First e mail sent. No reply.
Thursday evening second email sent this time stressing the urgency as I now need a plan B if they don't arrive by saturday morning.

So I then end up having to go into town and buy 3 pairs so DD can choose the most suitable, and then return the unwanted ones. Exactly what I wanted to avoid.

Saturday afternoon I get a ''sorry I was on holiday. Have now posted. Many apologies .''

Grrr....

and she charged £4.50 for something that cost £2.20 to send.

have you emailed her and complained first? If not do that first and see what she says before leaving a neg

typicalvirgo · 12/06/2012 13:40

Ok will do that and report back Grin

OP posts:
fergoose · 12/06/2012 13:48

and then if you get an unhelpful response you can leave a neg with a clear conscience I reckon :)

typicalvirgo · 12/06/2012 14:45

Well here is the reply ...

all I can do is appologize for your inconvenience, I do usually state on my items I only post on Fri and sat and of course I would of tried my best to get it to you on time would I of not been on hol and not been able to read my messages there I could not get back to you. Im really sorry about it all and im normally a very good ebayer as you can see from my feedback.

I do appreciate the apology but for me its not a positive outcome. I would never go on holiday and leave items running, its just not the done thing is it ?

OP posts:
fergoose · 12/06/2012 15:14

Nope not the done thing, you don't end listings and then go on holiday?

I don't believe her - sorry

Did you ask about the overcharging on postage? I would tell her item is too late so you are returning for full refund plus return postage costs and appropriate feedback will be left

ohnoudidnt · 12/06/2012 16:37

Im sure sellers can put holiday settings on while they are away.....looking at it from her side, how many days did her listing state it would take? If she has posted it within her stated time then yabu.

fergoose · 12/06/2012 16:42

I thought the seller had agreed to post them straight away which is why op went ahead with the purchase though?

ishopthereforeiam · 12/06/2012 20:38

She should offer a refund...

ggirl · 12/06/2012 22:10

did the seller agree to post it asap for you?

I also think the holiday is a load of shite...I have had that as well and considering they have the option of delaying the listing or making it clear on the listing that there will be a delay due to them being on holiday i think it warrants a neutral feedback atleast

typicalvirgo · 13/06/2012 09:30

Right just to clarify...

i had sent 2 messages to the seller whilst the auction was active with 48 hours to go, asking for clarification of the item and then the second message stated that if i were to win please could she post asap as I needed the item for saturday 2nd.

Auction ends 28 may at 9.30 am and I pay 2 minutes after by PP. And assume she will follow my request made the day before to post promptly.

looking at the listing now the estimated delivery was 5 to 7 days. She posted it on the sat 2nd and arrived some days after poss the thurs as it was a bank holiday.

I was then away on holiday after the dance show so it was left in my local sorting office for half term and i picked it up yesterday. This delay is not the issue here as a buyer I do not have to inform my sellers of my holiday plans but I expect a seller to let me know theirs !

I agree its a bit odd to communicate with a potential buyer a day before the item finishes and 'forget' to tell them you are going on holiday.

Anyway, I have just asked for a full refund. We will see...

OP posts:
fergoose · 13/06/2012 09:51

so the seller did agree to post immediately then?

TheRhubarb · 13/06/2012 09:57

Hmmm, you're on tricky ground here.

The seller stated on her listing that delivery time was 5 to 7 days. She posted it on the 5th day but obviously the long bank holiday meant you wouldn't have received it until the Wed, normally however you would have received it, if she posted First Class, on the Monday which would be within her 7 day delivery period stated.

Also, you sent an email asking for it to be posted asap but you never received a reply. So the assumption that she received the email and acted upon it was entirely yours.

Whether she went away or not is not really the point here. The listing clearly stated her delivery times and she did keep within that.

The postage you have every right to complain about and demand that you receive a refund for excessive postage costs. But the rest is just bad luck I'm afraid. I've learnt the hard way that it pays to check out the seller's delivery times as more people than you'd think only post at the weekends.

typicalvirgo · 13/06/2012 10:08

I kind of agree with you The Rhubarb ordinarily I couldn't complain with the delivery date.

BUT the conversation (2 messages from me, 1 from her ) was within a 20 minute period of time (just checked my ebay messages) , so yes, I do assume she got the message.

Looking at some of her other completed items she has stated she only posts on a friday or sat. This was not on my listing like she admitted so I think the holiday thing was a red herring.

No reply from her yet...

OP posts:
TheRhubarb · 13/06/2012 11:25

See where you get with the complaint. If someone has answered your message and then switched off the pc there's not a lot you can do about it, it's just unfortunate. Sadly you can't prove she received your second message and although you were right to ask, she is not obliged to post any quicker than she stated on her listing.

typicalvirgo · 13/06/2012 12:39

OK. She will refund original price and PP but not my return postage.

So that would be £2.20 plus recorded if I worry she denies receiving it.

I'd probably be better off trying to sell it myself.

I'll leave her sweating for a bit whilst I decide or see what the MN consensus is Grin

OP posts:
TheRhubarb · 13/06/2012 13:26

What is her returns policy? Most won't refund returns so I guess she has that covered.

I would accept the refund for the excessive package and sell it on yourself. You might even be quids in, you never know?

typicalvirgo · 13/06/2012 13:38

Its a no returns... so she is being generous.

There is no refund for excessive package, she is only prepared to repay my original outlay, so by my calculations, having already spent a total of £10 I would in effect only get £7.80 so yes I'll probably be better selling it on.

I don't think I'd be quids in, pennies maybe but more likely break even or -make a loss Grin

I'm still wavering between the red dot and a neutral and looking forward to dinging her P&P DSR.

Thanks for everybody's advice !

OP posts:
fergoose · 13/06/2012 16:57

erm she is not being generous - no returns means nothing

red dot all the way in my opinion to be honest

TheRhubarb · 13/06/2012 19:24

Not having a returns policy is bad.
The excessive postage costs are bad and not offering to refund you the excess postage is also bad.

That's 3 bads.

Negative feedback from me too.
