I've been asked if I'll do a buy it now; there are some bids - can I?

If I can how do I?

No I don't think you can as there are bids on it already. Rather cheeky of the other person to ask you - they can just bid like everyone else!

KatyMac · 31/05/2012 18:55

Thanks I thought not

you can cancel the bids and add a buy it now if you wish

nancerama · 31/05/2012 19:03

This always happens to me when the buyer knows the item you're selling is going to fetch a good price. I don't think it's in the spirit of eBay to do this, and ats almost always in the seller's interest to hold on and let the bidding war commence.

KatyMac · 31/05/2012 19:06

It's an old trampoline, I'm not sure it's worth much Grin

But I kind of agree about it being against the spirit of it (frantically hoping it makes more than the £10 offered)

I agree about the spirit thing - it would be very rude to other potential buyers to cancel their bids.

If people don't want to bid then they shouldn't use eBay, or just stick to buy it now (as I do sometimes)

KatyMac · 31/05/2012 19:17

I said we'd rather not

I had this once-can't think why you would want to when it might make more. Just refuse and if they really want it they will bid.

KatyMac · 03/06/2012 10:19

I did

& some new to eBay person bought it & it's 48 hours since they bought it & they haven't been in touch

Is it OK to ask the buyer if she still wants it?

OP posts:
fuzzpig · 03/06/2012 10:22

I would leave it a bit longer but I'm a softie!

fergoose · 03/06/2012 10:23

You can open an unpaid dispute on day 4

androbbob · 03/06/2012 10:24

They may be away with it being a bank hol weekend. Rude not to let you know though.

KatyMac · 03/06/2012 10:24

I was wondering if the buyitnow made a new account just to pay me back

I just want rid of the stupid thing

Who would thing a second hand trampoline that needs a new spring cover would go for £36!!

KatyMac · 03/06/2012 13:01

I'm being unfair aren't i?

Sorry Sad

OP posts:
fergoose · 03/06/2012 13:13

not necessarily - just wait till day 4 and open your dispute, then if they don't pay you can close it - and block them from future auctions too.

fuzzpig · 03/06/2012 13:42

I never opened a dispute for somebody who didn't pay (didn't know what disputes were then!) - it was also a new buyer so I didn't see the point of making a fuss if they weren't going to return. I messaged them and got no response so I just did a second chance offer to the next person after about a week (easier for me though as it was a small item so I didn't mind it hanging around longer!) - the good thing is that because of the way ebay bidding works, the second chance offer won't be much less than the first price :)

KatyMac · 03/06/2012 13:48

I reckon if she hasn't been in touch by tomorrow lunchtime - so 72 hours later I'll do the second chance offer

OP posts:
fergoose · 03/06/2012 15:07

No you have to do the dispute first, then once closed four days later you either do second chance offer or relist. Otherwise you could have two buyers and only one item. If you don't do the dispute you will also be charged final value fees of about 10%.
