Go to www.deliveryquotecompare.com/courier-services/ get a courier quote. You do need to find out what it weighs though.

I'd check courier prices on eBay, they will have wrapping instructions but if you need cardboard then get some big boxes from your supermaket, flatten and use them as best you can!

HTH!

if something (eg a child's bike!) is wrapped in brown paper and a sort of foamy lining but not a box, will it be accepted by the couriers?

Ask a local bike shop if they could give you a child's bike box. They probably have to pay to get rid of them otherwise. DH had sent adult bikes with Send It Now. I have used them for pushchairs too.

Try Shiply . You enter details of what you want delivered, from where to where. Couriers enter quotes; you can ask them questions and then choose the one which you want. I've sent several things that way and it worked brilliantly. Depending on who you choose to take it, it may not need wrapping at all. You aren't under any obligation to accept any of the quotes, and no fee is payable until you do accept one.
