Ive just won an ebay case, was ending when I saw it and I bid on it too quickly to realise it wasn't what I wanted. Its over £60 and its the wrong thing. The seller advertised it right and I just didnt read it properly. Im fucked aren't I? gonna have to buy it now :( Its £60 that I cant afford to throw away on something I dont want. I am so not happy with myself at all. bastard, bugger, fuck.

no - you can ask the seller to send a cancellation - you agree, they get their final fees back then they can do a second chance offer. So you do not need to pay for it. Just email seller politely, apologise and ask them to cancel the sale.

Or if you just don't pay, the worst that can happen is a non paying strike against you - just one will not affect your account.

SNOWBall4girlz · 31/05/2012 09:47

Just re sell it your self once you have it.
It is not an instant remedy but if you bought it some one else will.
The other thing is to politely ask the seller if they could offer it to second highest bidder as you made a mistake?
Otherwise i am not sure.

FartBlossom · 31/05/2012 10:14

Ive asked if they can cancel it. I told them I was stupid, I feel really bad and that I apologise profusely.

Snow so once Ive paid nearly £70 (£62 for the item plus £6 for p+p) for it what do I do until I sell it again? I thought I was buying something I really needed ASAP. I cant afford to just buy it and re-sell it as I can't then afford to buy something I dont need.

Why oh why am I so stupid grrrrr. Im not happy with myself at all. Poor seller :( popped on ebay to look for it, saw something ending in less than 1 min so I bid for it then realised my mistake.

no you are not stupid and you are trying to resolve it with the seller. I would not risk paying out that kind of money in the hope you may sell it again for more money.

FartBlossom · 31/05/2012 10:27

If I could afford it I would just buy it and put it down to experience. I hate letting people down and I feel like I have done just this.

no if you ask them to cancel the transaction they get their fees back and can offer to under bidder. Don't worry. Much better you communicate now rather than not pay at all and ignore emails from seller asking if you still want item, which is what I have had to do with buyer today. If on day 1 they had cancelled transaction I could have done 2nd chance offer and dispatched but now 1 week later the underbidder has possibly shopped elsewhere.

FartBlossom · 31/05/2012 11:11

The bid ended at 20 past 9 this morning and I messaged them before 10 so hopefully they will be nice. Ive not had any word back yet, but that doesn't mean a lot. If they go down the route of giving me a non payment strike I will know about it wont I? Would hate to get one and not realise. What does that actually mean?

OP posts:

A non payment strike will just be a black mark against your account, but one will not matter. Yes you will know about it - you will have a message in eBay and then when closed another message to tell you.

FartBlossom · 31/05/2012 11:41

Thanks fergoose you have been very helpful

very welcome :)

A reasonable seller will be a bit cheesed off but will appreciate the fact that you contacted them to apologise and will be happy to cancel the sale and get their money back straight away.

Most non payers just ignore all contact, the rude fuckers and make you open a case against them to get your fees back. Twats! (can you tell I've had a few of them recently) Angry

FartBlossom · 31/05/2012 15:09

so Ive done the right thing then try? I was expecting a lot of I should buy it and tough kind of replies. I feel really guilty for it, not heard anything from the seller yet though. Im glad that even though Ive probably messed them about Ive done the best I can (well apart from actually buy the item of course)

The seller has cancelled the item now. They did send me a bit of a snooty message, but its just words on a screen isn't it, besides I dont really blame them for being annoyed they have to advertise it again and might not sell it for as much. Im going to be watching it and hope that it goes for more so its worked out best all round. Then again it could go the other way.

You definitely did the right thing. Wish more buyers were so considerate.

FartBlossom · 01/06/2012 12:21

Thanks tryharder I think its over now anyway, not heard anything else from the seller, but then again as I didnt reply to them I dont think I will. I feel a little more at ease with myself now about it.

IMO it shows more goodwill if you say "I'm very sorry for this mistake and can send you a couple of pounds for the inconvenience if you want"

I reckon most people won't demand compensation and will feel less offended if they think you are a decent person.
