Security Marks - what do you all do?

I've seen Fergoose mention Secuirty Marks lots of times here, what sort of marks do you wise ebayers make on your items?

What about beauty products?
Clothes
Shoes?

And has anyone beat a scammer by saying you'd check security marks before refunding?

I'm all ears awaiting your wise words

Usually, just the mention of security marks will scare off a scammer. I had someone complain about a damaged DVD a few weeks ago. I asked them to return it and once I'd checked the security marks, I'd refund. I didn't hear from them again.

I have now bought a magic marker and do intend to mark my items before they are posted.

Sometimes, I wonder if people just regret bidding so much and are after a part-refund or hope that the seller will offer a full refund (and the bidder keep the item) to avoid the hassle of returns. I am far too tight to just write off my items/winnings and offer a refund on receipt of the goods.

I've been selling for 9 years and have only had to refund one item but have had to offer a couple of times lately.

Mogs - what marks would you make with the magic marker?

How would making marks not damage any item?

I'm clueless Blush

The magic marker doesn't show up unless you shine the UV torch on it so you could maybe write your initials on a hidden area...(label on an item of clothing?)

Hi Mogs, thank you for your reply!

I have more questions, so sorry

How can a seller prove they left UV-detectable security marks?

Oh, it's just the one question!
Sorry for being so dim Blush

I don't know if a seller could prove it but hopefully just the mention of it would be enough to make a scammer think twice ... or maybe I'm being a little naive!

Thankfully, I've never actually had to deal with receiving a switched item...I don't think the type of things I sell would attract scammers as I generally have low value items.
