Why have many of my buyers not left feedback?

Should I take it personally!!
I say many but I have only been eBaying a couple of weeks and got 3 / 9 buyers' feedback.
I have left feedback for them in case they were waiting!
What do you think?

I have been ebaying for years - for some reason (don't know why), people seem to not bother anymore. I was quite paranoid, although I never received any complaints. No idea why not. It's a 5 second job.

RachelHRD · 05/05/2012 17:45

It is annoying but don't lose hope - some people take a while to do it. I just got feedback for an item which was won on 18th March!!

thisisyesterday · 05/05/2012 17:53

sometimes i just forget! then i do a load all in one go

it isn't compulsory though, and some people just cna't be bothered.

I also have also not left feedback a couple of times, once when something came smelling of smoke (my fault for not asking, as listing didn't state smoke-free) and once when something listed as vintage wasn't
both times I'd not paid much, and the problems weren't really worth complaining about, but I didn't really want to leave positive and negative would have been harsh so i decided to just not leave any at all

jardy · 05/05/2012 19:21

I get fed up when I have gone to endless trouble for a buyer ie packing it beautifully and replying helpfully to messages and they have a bargain and they don`t leave any feedback. But there is nothing you can do

notcitrus · 05/05/2012 19:43

It happens. I think some people only log in to Ebay to buy something and then forget about it until they want something else.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2012 19:45

I don't leave feedback anymore as it's more hassle on my phone and I never use the computer for eBay anymore.

irememberthesilverjubilee · 05/05/2012 20:27

Yes I take it as they are slightly disappointed but not enough to leave a negative.
But really I think that is because;
A people can't arsed
B too much hassle for people

But after packing stuff really carefully and replying quickly and providing great directions and not saying anything when collection in person people ALWAYS turn up late - 30 mins/ 1 hour it is v annoying

i've only just started selling and it's so irritating as paypal money doesn't clear unless i receive feedback or wait 21 days, so get to it people!

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2012 20:32

When did that happen Sea? If I sell something then I get the money immediately not 21 days.

southeastastra · 05/05/2012 20:33

think it's because i'm a new seller

irememberthesilverjubilee · 05/05/2012 20:35

Yes when you are a new seller your PayPal total is pending for 21 days but if you add tracking nos. this can speed up the process

I don't know whether this is the case for you or not OP, but as a buyer I rarely leave feedback until after the seller has done so; I do this because if I've paid promptly that's my side of the deal done in most cases...

boogiewoogie · 05/05/2012 20:59

Neils Sellers cannot leave anything but positive feedback and I don't think that is all you should expect from the buyer when he/she has paid. What if the buyer isn't happy? What if the buyer turns out to be unscrupulous and wants a refund when they claim item not described and sends back a completely different item?

Buyers need to leave positive feedback to confirm receipt of the item and that they are happy with it. If they're not happy with it then they should get in touch with the seller and only when the seller is unwilling to cooperate then it would be reasonable to leave neutral or negative.

Rant over.

NeilsBoar · 06/05/2012 09:00

I think if the buyer is unscrupulous a dispute is raised and both sides of the feedback can be withdrawn. I could be mistaken though...

ragged · 06/05/2012 10:46

I get overwhelmed by the DSRs & can't remember the true answers.

Often something goes faulty a month later, so I think, "best wait until last possible moment" to leave f/back. And then I forget about it.

sarahtigh · 06/05/2012 15:57

unless low value or unbreakable like a book I only leave feedback for buyers once they have left feedabck for me, I do feedback in batches and copy and paste the same comment for everyone

feedback is optional like at asda it is a nuisance when first start selling as you need to get stars and DSR in order to increase selling allowances but its only for max 3 months, unless you mess up you need average of 4.8 DSR

do not take it personally better no feedback than neutral or sarcy cooment

NEVER EVER ask anyone for feedback

boogiewoogie · 06/05/2012 17:23

A dispute can be raised when in my case a buyer has not paid. However, the seller cannot leave feedback to warn sellers that the buyer is a timewaster like bidding and then not paying or bothering to answer messages to give them a chance to explain the delay in payment. As a result, my buyer still has 100% +ve feedback.

I still cannot see why the buyer should only give feedback after they've received it first. It's not like they're going to get a negative or neutral.

NeilsBoar · 06/05/2012 21:20

My reason (and this may not apply to others) for waiting for others to give feedback is that I had a spate of buying stuff and not getting any feedback, this was early on in my use of ebay when some sellers only allowed bidders with more than 10 feedback.

So I decided to only give feedback after the seller did - because like I said earlier I've done the significant bits of my side of the transaction, i.e., paying promptly.

I guess now that sellers can't leave negative feedback and I tend to only see 'buyers with no feedback should message first', maybe I should reconsider.

MayaAngelCool · 06/05/2012 21:27

I also do fb late and in batches. It's just never gonna be top of my list; I have too much else to do.

PoohBearsHole · 08/05/2012 12:41

I am rubbish at feedback, I do quite like to find out though if someone likes my item :) it just doesn't always happen and am now at over 100 so I don't mind too much but have been a member since 2004 Hmm

irememberthesilverjubilee · 08/05/2012 19:49

Maya - maybe I have got the whole process wrong I am v new to all this as I did say at the start.
But I did think that leaving fb was part of the process

OP posts:
MayaAngelCool · 08/05/2012 20:23

Yes, it is part of the process, but bringing up my children, looking after my home and running my business are always going to come first! Grin

irememberthesilverjubilee · 08/05/2012 20:59

Oh ffs I will stop wasting yr much more precious time and go and tend to my own neglected children.
I start off asking what I thought was a reasonable q and get this
I will take my leave now.
Thank you to those who did answer my q.

PoohBearsHole · 08/05/2012 21:29

iremember I am gleaning that you have a bit of an issue with what Maya said, although I am struggling to work out why. She has said she does it, many people do but also many just can't be bothered. its life. I don't think she was being particularly insulting.

The advice I can give you is to NOT be one of those people that demands people leave fb. Life really is too short, you can guarantee that is one way to piss off your buyer and you are more likely to get negs that way.

MayaAngelCool · 08/05/2012 21:46

Good god, woman! Did you not read that I do give feedback? I may not write it at the precise time a seller wants, but I do write it. I kind of assumed I was in charge of setting my own priorities in life - is that not the case? Hmm

I cannot bear the way some people assume that you have to drop everything and attend to their wishes within their time frame. What a self-absorbed attitude.
