Would you leave a neg in these circumstances?

I bought some denim skirts for my daughter off eBay. They arrived and are in ok condition, except one of them had a crusty food stain on it! It has actually come out in the wash, but do you think this calls for negative feedback?

No. I would probably mention it in the comment line though.

Hmm - I wouldn't leave a negative for this without contacting the seller first. I know it is too late now, but I would have taken a photo of the stain before washing and sent it to the seller. She might have been mortified and offered a refund. You shouldn't really leave a negative without trying to sort things out first.

If it was a 99p bargain then ignore the stain. If you paid a lot then it matters more.

Possibly the seller just hadn't seen the food stain. Sometimes, if you are selling a lot, you forget to check everything properly.

So, yes, let the seller know.

I wouldn't leave negative feedback for a mark which washed out. Same as I wouldn't leave 'negative feedback', ie I wouldn't give earache to the volunteer at the till - on something with a mark which I bought from a charity shop. Ebay stuff is usually a bit of a bargain, and there wasn't anything actually wrong with the skirt, so, no.

PoohBearsHole · 02/05/2012 14:57

If it makes any difference I have found my washing machine doesn't always get some things off. It is mightily embarrassing! mind you you might also find that a small person may have touched the skirt with mucky hands and not been noticed.

I would mention it to the seller before leaving the neg.

I wouldn't really describe as a stain something which came out first time in the wash. But I would say its dirty, which isn't great.

Not worthy of a neg; even if you did think it was worthy of a neg, it'd be better Ebay etiquette to contact the seller, explain why you were dissatisfied, and see if they would try to compensate you (offer a small refund). Most sellers will bend over backwards.

I would never leave negativ without contacting seller first give them a chance to reply if unsatisfactory or rude then maybe neg. but to neg without giving someone a chance to put it right is unfair

notcitrus · 03/05/2012 16:35

I'd mention it to the buyer but if it was very cheap I'd say not to bother with any refund.

I'd only neg if the seller got arsy.

If you're happy it's all come out then I'd prob leave neutral and a comment such as 'Great transaction but dirty condition, cleaned up in wash'. If you're selling stuff it's your job to ensure it's in as perfect a condition as possible, and not noticing a large crusted foodstain does not deserve positive feedback imo.

fergoose · 04/05/2012 12:37

I would leave a neg if the seller had been unwilling to resolve. But I agree message them first give them chance to rectify.

I would prob still leave a neutral and low stars - it is part of the rules that items are freshly laundered - and many sellers do send out very dirty and smelly clothes which I consider unacceptable. I know we probably all wash stuff before we wear it but even so - I have had some items arrive which were so bad you could smell them before the parcel was even opened.
