Sold a dress on ebay which i know was in good condition as had it dry cleaned and then checked myself before sending it. However purchaser has came back after nearly 2 weeks after she received it saying she wants a refund as it has stains down it. Im a bit Hmm about it as the fact that 2 weeks has passed makes me think that she has worn it and stained it. Im kinda thinking that I dont really have a leg to stand on as a seller and so have offered her a refund. I am actually on holiday at the moment so asked if she could wait until 1st May and I will sort out refund first thing once im home. Also told her i understood if she opened a dispute in meantime for peace of mind. She has done so and bloody put that I haven't responded to her and that I as seller am not working with her to resolve the problem?!? She has just sent me another email saying she put that by accident and that she will return the dress once i issue her a refund. Do i ask her to return the dress first and can I tell ebay that i am trying to help her and am not being difficult. Im rather annoyed and a bit worried that Im going to get a dress back not in the condition I sent it. If it was a cheapie dress I dont think i would be that bothered but it sold for over £80 and I guess i will be a bit annoyed if I cant resell it.

no do not issue a refund before she returns it, that should never happen. If I were you I would escalate the dispute, then she will have to return it to you and prove to eBay that she has done that and then you would have to refund her.

I bet she has worn it and now wants to return it dirty and used.

To be perfectly honest I wouldn't bother. You may get a black mark against name. But she will have to state her reasons and you will be able to explain. So anyone checking how reputable you are will read both sides. For the sake of a £80 refund and possible damaged dress I'd take the small eBay telling off. Others may not agree but it's what I would do x

Machasma, even if i did protest to ebay and did not wish to give her refund, wouldn't paypal just take it out of my account anyway?

If this dress comes back and its state does not match the pics I have can i then dispute it with paypal/ebay?

yes eBay/Paypal will refund her - there is nothing you can do about that. But you must not refund her until she gives tracking to prove that she has returned it to you.

agree, you must insist she returns it to you and you make sure what condition it is in ect........................sometimes when the buyer realises you are serious and won't just give their refund back without sending it back they will just not bother. There are some people obviously who just want to catch you out. Have a look at her feedback and what feedback she has given others.

Allboxedin · 22/04/2012 22:02

...and like fergoose said, do not issue a refund without seeing the dress first. This is what ebay recommend.

I sold some shoes before christmas and the buyer complained and wanted a refund,I flat out refused as like you time had passed,i knew the shoes were in very good condition etc etc she threatened to escalate it and I said go ahead ......it never happened.....i kept the £1.04 she paid for gorgeous satin shoes and she kept the shoes.

This happened to my friend.
She sold an expensive dress but a week later, the buyer wanted a refund saying it was marked.
My friend tracked the woman down on facebook and saw a photo of her wearing the dress on a night out with her friends.
Request for a refund was quietly dropped.

fergoose · 22/04/2012 22:44

also - tell the buyer you will happily refund if the dress is returned to you after you have checked your security marks and it is in the same clean, unworn condition in which it was sent out. However if it is damaged you will be unable to refund and will have to ask for further payment to return it to the buyer.

Echo PP's sounds as if she is trying it on. Advise her that you will only issue a refund once you have checked the dress against the photos you took of it just before posting and that if it does not match you will not issue a refund and she will need to pay postage both ways. I'm sure she will suddenly drop the case...

Just had a very similar thing happen. I just gave the stupid cow a refund as I couldn't be arsed with the hassle but I wish I'd stood my ground now! Some people really are awful! She reckoned I'd shrunk the clothes (that had never been washed) in the dryer! Personally I think she was being a tad optimistic about her size... Grin Bitchy, but it made me feel better!
